Today's topic in Courage to Change is a good one. It talks about remembering to take care of ourselves during times of stress and dont ignore your basic needs. During times of crisis it's probably more important to take time out for a f2f meeting, calling your sponsor or getting a breath of fresh air. Doing something for yourself is not a waste. When we need to take care of ourselves, we likely do the opposite. The self-sabotage takes over our best interests. When we are angry, lonely, hungry, or tired, we need to step back and ask ourselves, have we taken care of our needs today, or only the needs of those around us (especially our qualifier). Remember what they say on the airplane: first put the oxygen mask on you before giving it to another person. We are no help to others if we don't take care of ourselves first!
Today's reminder: "I am the only one who can make my well-being my top priority. I owe it to myself to pay attention to the needs of my body, mind, and spirit."
Remember, First Things First. It's easy when life gets crazy (in my life my A recovering in the hospital, from the disease both physically and mentally, and me being drained emotionally, financially and spiritually). I needed this reminder today that I have to step back, have some me time, and to realize I'm not being selfish, even when others say I am. Just because my A is very sick. Life will not slow down for anyone so it's up to us to take time for us, without guilt. Today's reading gives you that permission. Take care of you today! Peace.

Thanks Gabigail for sharing this - I so, so agree with this reading and have it ear-marked! It took me a while to change my life/routine to put me first. Before program, I woke up almost always dreading what 'might' happen that day. I worried about others, what they were doing, where they needed to be, etc. My sponsor told me that I needed to do me first. That's when I started habitually reading the dailys, chatting with God, and taking a walk for me each morning first....
I am so grateful she made me really look at how I started my days. When I can start them with my focus on me, self-care, recovery, etc. it just seems to make the days easier - no matter what happens, if I stay close to my program it just seems to make acceptance easier. For me, acceptance is necessary for serenity.
(((Hugs))) - great share! Thanks for your service!
