Goodbye Cigarettes!!!

I'm back to quitting smoking.  I had my last cigarette last night.  I WILL NOT have another one.  Bf is still sober.  He's gonna spend the evening with me and he said he's bringing chocolate to help me ignore the nicotine cravings.  That is one addiction I will never give up - chocolate.  I would ask you all to wish me luck on the quitting front but I'm not going to need luck because I'm just not going to smoke one.

Best to you for quitting smoking. I know it's hard because we often see it as our friend or shield when others are acting up around us. I too am in the process of quitting smoking cigarettes, am on a cut down program until it goes down to being a non smoker so I know your struggle. Funny but when I found out I was pregnant all those years ago for my now nearly 18 year old son I quit cold turkey the minute I found out I was pregnant! Picked it up during stressful times many years after he was born and quitting is not as easy now. Wishing you the best, you can do it! Hugs

I smoked about 1/2 to 3/4 of a pack, depending on the day. So, it was never too bad. Still, I've been thinking about quitting for a while and just decided that I'm going to. My boyfriend smokes but he didn't bring his cigarettes and didn't smoke all evening because he didn't want to make it harder for me. It's things like that - the little things - that mean the most.

I quit 2 years ago whiskey, after about 25 years of 1- 1.5 packs a day. It's a great feeling of achievement; yay for you!!

I'm sitting at 24 hours without a cigarette. I want one. I need another muffin. They're blueberry and yummy. And a couple more Reese's eggs. Yeah, that sounds really good.

Someone told me that grapefruit juice stops the cravings. Just drink a bit of it every time you want one. I got some today. It does seem to help. Still, I want a muffin.

One weird thing that helped me was blowing bubbles (you know, like a kid, with detergent and stuff). Instead of going out for a smoke and blowing smoke rings, I'd go outside and blow bubbles and watch them float off into the sky

I never learned to blow smoke rings . . . now I almost want to go buy a pack so I can try it.
Yeah, yeah, I'm not fooling anyone, not even myself. And that's a really lame excuse.
I'm not going to smoke. I'm gonna color in my adult coloring book. It's pretty.

I am starting that path too of quitting smoking cigarettes. I have been on Chantix for about a week and a half and I have set a quit date for the 22nd, my birthday. I am doing this for me this time. I deserve it.

I quit smoking 8 months ago.  I was a 3 pack a day smoker.  Took Chantix for about 5 months.  I had tried every other way to quit, but this was the only way.  I still can't believe I quit, but I miss it every day.

As of Last Month I'm a 16yr Quitter Myself... I Did it Cold Turkey, but I Tell ya I Did It because My Son was Starting to get Allergy's and I didn't want to Contribute Any of My Habits to His Health... But I Smoked about a Pack to a Pack & 1/2 a day... Something that TRULY Helped Me was I had Needed a Reward.. So I Took the Cost of My Habit "$2-$3" a Day and Put it Back... Cause I Would have Spent it on Smokes... I Took that Money after a couple months and Did Something Fun to Celebrate... Went to an amusement park, Got my Hair done, something that brought me Joy...

My Biggest Issue was I Didn't Realize How Often I Smoked till I Quit :/ and I'm a Nervous Person to begin with, so I had to Find something to Do with My Hands... I Chewed on Straws, would Carry a Pencil in my Hand like a Smoke, Eat Suckers... But the Thing that Helped me Most was "Crafting" I Started Going to Walmart and Getting the "Kids Crafts" lol and Started to Work my Way up to See what I Really Liked to do... My Mom still Laughs at how I Began Crafting, but she is Quite Excited when I Make her Sometimes Awesome Now :D Love your Coloring book idea too...

Its Like any Habit out there... Mind over Matter... You Got this... I Too am a HUGE Chocolate Fan... But I had to go with Crafts... They was Less Calories in my Already Out of Shape Body... :D LOL

You Go Girl... You CAN....

I'm not worried about weight gain. I'm naturally tiny - have been my whole life. I don't see that changing. I eat like a horse anyway. I would like to gain 2 lbs, though. I tried to donate blood a few days ago and they wouldn't let me. The minimum weight is 110 lbs and I was only 108. I asked it I could go eat 2 lbs of food and come back, but they said no. Lame. Like 2 lbs is really going to make a difference! So, there's another blood drive on April 12. I've never been able to gain weight, even though I've tried. Maybe I'll find some ankle weights - they won't strip search me, right? LOL
Anyway, I want a cigarette. But I'm stubborn. I'm just doing it cold turkey. I gave in last time because I was stressed enough and I needed to give myself a break. Now, things are as normal as they ever are - though why I decided to quit right when I started my period is beyond me - and I'm just not going to do it. You've heard that phrase stubborn as a mule? Mules ain't got nothin' on me, baby! Haha

It's like this vaporizer thing that gives you a smaller dose of nicotine. 2 days without a cigarette! I'm going to chew someone's face off.

You don't want a cigarette, it wrinkles your skin prematurely, higher chance of cancer, expensive, and they make you stink!

I think the experience probably gives a hint of what it's like for the alcoholic trying to quit without a program...

You can do this wisky!

After smoking a pack a day for 30 years, I quit cold turkey for 3 months. Unfortunately, after 3 months, I bummed a cigarette once in awhole after my AA meetings. I now need to start over, because 1 a day turned into 3, which turned into 10. Don't make the mistakes I made, thinking 1 won't be bad when times are tough. Once you have that 1, we're off and running.

Good luck! You can do this.

Thanks for the pep talks. Bf came over yesterday evening and tonight and didn't bring his cigarettes with him because he didn't want to make it harder on me. But I have a killer headache. I think it's because my body isn't getting nicotine. So, I'm gonna take some aleve and go to bed.
By the way, someone told me that drinking grapefruit juice when you get a craving will stop the craving. It sounded weird, but I bought a bottle. It actually works. Weird, but true.

LinSC - exactly what was stated - if you google vaping, you'll see that it's a huge movement! It was great for me as it gave me something to do with my hands and my mouth.....there are all kinds of debates on whether vaping helps and/or if it is healthier or not and yada-yada, which requires personal decisions and studying. But, for me, it got me off cigarettes so I consider it a success.

I once got hypnotized and thought it was incredibly silly - went with a group of work friends and we all giggled while we were laying on the floor with this person. We never felt like we were being hypnotized but surprisingly it worked.

Like Michael suggests, I thought perhaps I could be a 'social smoker' - my dad went from smoking all the time to only during bowling and golf. Guess what - no way, not for me. I went from smoke free to a pack a day within one week.

So - I've not smoked for 7 years. It was an interesting transition and for me, I just told myself I would never purchase cigarettes again....ever, no matter what. I am not a big fan of borrowing, so between the vape and that mental thought, I did what I needed to do!!

WTG WL!!! WTG!

Day 3 with no cigarettes. I've been told the first 3 days are the hardest. I really hope that's true!

I'm 5 years no smoking. I told my son I would quit if he quit drinking. That didn't happen right away but now he's finally in recovery.....Thank you Lord

The first 3 days are the hardest. I believe most of the nicotine is out of your system after the first 3-4 days (I may be wrong, but I remember hearing that somewhere). You are through the worst as far as physical cravings, so don't give in!! Alot of this is mental, but going through 3 days without a cigarette proves to yourself that you are mentally tough.

Keep going strong, and don't give in!! You got this!!

I think smoking is like drinking. There's a lot of reason/justification for taking it, but really the bottom line is it's never good. It's only yourself who can make you quit. I quit because it's not helping me in any way, it didn't relieve me of any problem. I realized I'm using it to cover up, a senseless defense. Just like sobriety, I'm hanging on to a smoke free me :)
