Courage to Change 3-27-2016

The C2C reading for March 27 speaks about learning how to live within alanon principles.  It points out that many times, before program, we have  lived from crisis to crisis because it was the only way we knew or understood. The reading suggests the alanon's 12 Traditions are part of recovery and  help us to learn how a healthy family group should  function.

When a problem involving other people arises  turn to the traditions for guidance. These traditions make it possible for us to be part of a  group that encourages growth. They also have let us  learn to detach, to respect other people's privacy and opinions and finally releases my need to dominate and control.

Because of the Traditions, I have discovered that I am an important member of any group in which I take part. I can have a sense of my own value as well as my limitations and as a result,  can develop the wisdom to know the difference between what I can change what I must accept.

The quote is from Al-Anon Spoken here. "The 12 Steps and 12 Traditions embody principles that lead to recovery and personal growth, helping each of us to discover and become the person we want to be."
I love the idea that I have heard many times-- The 12 Steps keep us from suicide and the 12 Traditions keep us from homicide..  I know that I honed my alanon tools while attending meetings and interacting with alanon members  I saw how effective they were and  had the courage to bring them into my work place, and home environment .   They work if, I work it.

Have a  Lovely Sunday

Betty, thank you for bringing this reading to us.  You've inspired me to take another look at the Traditions.  I love "The 12 Steps keep us from suicide and the 12 Traditions keep us from homicide" ... That is a new one for me. I find it especially powerful when I can get a laugh out of the Al-Anon principles. Seems like the things I can laugh about are the ones I remember best.

Thank you Betty for the daily and your ESH....I read this today and based on how yesterday went, flipped back to the traditions to see how I could draw upon them for support today. This was exactly what I needed today. For me, just for today, I need to realize that my definition of healthy and normal doesn't always match others. I have to keep seeking my truth and figure out how to be of value.

I LOVE the 12 Steps/Suicide & the 12 Traditions/Homicide analogy......this is so, so true. Thank you for your service!

Happy Sunday & Happy Easter!

I think I need to read through the traditions and do some reflecting too. After a day of travel and spending the day in Qualifier City, this sounds like exactly what I need. I was close to storming out at one point, ugh!! Perhaps next time I will read them before leaving the house.
