Courage to Change Reading 1-6-2016

The C2C reading for January 6 reminds us that in between meetings we must keep in close touch with other Al-Anon members by telephone.  Sharing Al-Anon recovery by telephone allows me to reach out to someone else and talk things over ton reason things out.

.I must remember that  the person I'm talking to is not my counselor, confessor, problem solver. They are not  obliged to sit and listen to all my sad stories, instead, this person may help me reason things out and remind me of an Al-Anon  idea or two that  will be something that I can use to help myself.

Today's reminder is that my responsibility to solve my own problems with the help of the God of my understanding.  Since God also speaks through other people, when I reach out and make an Al-Anon call, I become willing to receive help.

The quote is from William Hocking; "we cannot climb a rope  that is attached only to our own belt."

Love this quote,  I know that I never reached out for help and only relied on myself and my limited experience to solve any problem  How grateful I am that in alanon I learned how to ask for help and to" keep  an open  mind."

Thank you Betty for the daily reader & your ESH. I can say that my phone calls have gotten off track with my parents here and the holiday season - I am working to get back on schedule/track. I do so much better when I have routines for my life - I am one who can drift away when I loose my structure.

It's a great day - except we have weather, which often makes me nervous. I'll get through it. I have a meeting with my sponsor in a few minutes, then coffee with a program friend followed by a F2F! Looking forward to my day and working to get back on track.

I am one who loves to contact program friends when I am troubled. No matter how much program work I do, communications about important things/issues with my qualifiers are still very challenging/troubled. To get suggestions from others on different approaches or if my discomfort is even worthy of a mention is so crucial to my program as my way has been proven to be LTP - less than perfect.

I am also a fan of the daily quote - how true is that?

Make it a great day!!! Thanks so much for your service!!

I love this paradox - of solving my own problems and needing to anchor my rope as I climb. The tension, for me, calls both for personal responsibility and recognizing interconnection. Beautiful

I am finding strength today in vulnerability, another paradox. Courage to expose and examine the things I had tried so hard to hide away. I set up my first appointment with a therapist and life coach who was recommended to me by a friend. I'm hopeful for the change that lies ahead as I am just starting my alanon journey and trying to recognize the feeling in my gut as excitement instead of fear, sometimes they are the same.
