The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
The C2C reading for January 3 suggests that we should take the time to realize that we are writing our life story with every single second of each day. It suggests that if we want to see the movie (of our life) move in a positive direction, maybe we need to make some changes.
We can do nothing to change the past, except stop repeating it in the present. Going to Al-Anon meetings and practicing the principles of the program are some of the ways in which I'm already. breaking out of unhealthy and unsatisfactory patterns.
If we come to accept and understand that our life is built upon layers of little everyday accomplishments, we can easily accept the need to stay focused in the moment and the day . When I think this way, setting goals and taking small risks becomes nothing more than a daily striving to make my life better. Taking some tiny action each day can be much more effective than weeks and months of inactivity followed by a frenzied attempt to make radical changes.
By facing the challenge. I tried to make my beginning wherever it may be.
The quote is from Lao TSA ; "the journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step.".
How happy I am to have found this program and a group of like minded folks to share the journey.
Thanks Betty for the daily and your ESH. I have tried both approaches - daily maintenance of my recovery and 'fox-hole' - where I let things slide and then frantically try to regroup in a hurry. I'm a slow learner at times, but will say it has finally sunk into my brain that maintenance works so much better for me.
I have found myself at a much more consistent place of peace since I committed to a daily effort for my recovery. There have been days where I have woke up with sadness or fear, but before I put my feet to the ground, I turn to God and ask that he relieve me of that which holds me back. It works, and I am so grateful for every opportunity I get to make a change and break those patterns I lived with for so, so long.
I am grateful that I am compelled to take that first step each morning with my HP leading me towards a better way and a better day.
(((Hugs))) - another great reading for our start of the year!
