Gratitude - It's more than a Feeling....

Happy New Year to each of you within my MIP family.  It's a new day in a new year and I am always grateful to be alive.  There is something about a 'new start' that brings peace to me, and I am hoping to hold on to that one moment at a time, one day at a time.

So, I thought - what better way to start a new year than a post about gratitude!  I am so grateful for:

 - Each of you here at MIP - your shares, your ESH, your love brighten my day each and every time I stop by.  If I could, I would reach thru my computer and give hugs!

 - This great place that John has established for us, as well as for our host in knowing or believing that people from all over could come together for happiness, health and support!

 - For my health and my faith and my family - without each of them, the 'good & bad', I would not be who or where I am today.

 - This program, the tools, the fellowship and the miracle of recovery - without I would be who I used to be and I am not there today.

This is just a start and my hope is that each of you can add to this list, and we can start this new day of a new year together, grateful and seeking peace and serenity!

(((Hugs))) and Happy New Year to all!

Happy new year to you as well. I too feel the same each time I get to put a new calendar up on the kitchen wall! It's a fresh start with hope for new beginnings and a renewed spirit.

Gratitude is more than a feeling...I agree and the title of this post captured my spirit and will continue to do so thru the day so I will keep coming back to the well of gratitude to get my fill.  MIP is a blessing that my HP smiles at with me.  Mahalo Piha...in my culture that means Thank You Deeply and Completely.   ((((hugs)))) smile

I agree with you IAM and everyone, that MIP has helped me through some pretty dark times over the past two years, I am so grateful to John for
creating this forum and to all you in this amazing family. I am grateful for my connection to my HP and for my health and all that I have and
look forward to continued growth and wish everyone a healthy happy new year.

I am grateful that I can say and feel grateful Before program I did not even entertain the thought of "gratitude"- as, after all I was" all powerful and had done it all myself ". Gratitude lists even when i did not feel grateful accomplidhed a miracle within me. cloud lifted and I could see adn feel grateful How great was that.

There's something about the act of expressing gratitude that makes my day brighter, even if just for a moment. Thanks for the reminder. I really needed this one..

This morning I was thinking I wanted to come here and post something about finding gratitude even when you have the flu - yep, me. But I am still filled with so much gratitude for the life I have, the peace to suffer in a peaceful safe place. I don't have anyone trying to draw me into a fight while I'm sick, no one making me feel like I need to ignore my own sickness to cater to them. We are off work until Christmas break is over (Monday) and all my other work is caught up and done; I have heat, lots and lots of stuff to watch on tv, books to read if I choose, food to stick my nose up at because eating, uh, doesn't appeal to me right now! And no one to make me feel guilty for being sick! My pets are healthy, my bills are paid, my mother has resumed as normal of a life as possible considering the illness she dealt with all last year. Yesterday I spent most of the day lying on my couch, heaters on, flushed with fever and knocking down Tylenol to bring the fever down and dull the pain - you forget the aches and pains that come with the flu when you haven't had the flu for over a decade! It was as good as it could be to be sick but in my safe space where I could BE sick in peace!

Thanks for the great topic IamHere!

(((likemyheart))) - I hope that you feel better soon! I am so sorry that the flu caught you! It's not fun and my hope is the fever breaks/has broken. I think that may be the worst part of it! Prayer and & positive thoughts for fast healing!

Thanks to everyone who joined in. I have to agree - thinking about 'what' I am grateful for always makes me feel better!

(((Group Hug))) and a happy Saturday to everyone!

Thanks IMH!!
I'm grateful for al-anon and this board, and everyone here. Grateful for the amazing difference it makes to be able to face darkish days, like today has been, knowing that I have a tool-kit and I actually am not helpless at the whim of emotion- mine or anyone else's.
Grateful for a good book and a comfortable bed, and a smiling child and a purring cat!!
And for the tremendous gift of being in right now and not trying to imagine and construct tomorrow.
(((everyone)))

I am grateful to MIP and to Iamhere for creating this lovely thread to start the New Year - sorry I'm late!
I'm constantly grateful for this place and for the opportunities to reflect and talk to others who understand my situation.
I'm grateful for the life that runs through me and the ability it gives me to enjoy the gifts of nature that surround me.
Happy New Year everyone!

Back @ you milkwood!! I am grateful today that I got to a F2F meeting and the sun is shining! It's a cold day here (KS) but the sun is a welcome gift always!

I am also grateful that I have heard from my active son. I hadn't heard anything from him since Christmas and he answered a text I sent yesterday asking if he was still alive.

I will admit I am a little sad today as I contemplate this darn disease in my life and those around me yet I am grateful for the disease as it brought me here and to Al-Anon.

Here's to a great Sunday for everyone - may your moments be blessed and your day be great!

I am so great full for this little nest of online knowledge. It has helped me so much over the past three years so much more than anything else. I love reading little bits to think about and pondering it as my day goes on. THANK YOU TO ALL WHO MAKE IT GREAT AND KEEP IT GOING! My life is so much better for it!
