Courage to Change Jan 1

C2C reading for January 1 speaks about living in a society of instant gratification. Instant coffee instant money from the bank machine instant breakfast etc. It's everywhere we look. No wonder many of us arrived at Al-Anon looking for the instant answer to all our problems. Recovery is a process that takes time to regain, reclaim and recoup all that was lost while we tried on our own to cope with active drinking.

Building trust takes time, change takes time,  healing old wounds take time.  There is no immediate ready-made solutions. Tools and principles of the program, the steps, traditions, slogans can all lead us to the answer that is  right. Al-Anon is a one day at a time program.  no matter what is going on around us. Today we must realize that we are moving forward and trust the process.

The quote is from One Day at a Time in Al-Anon
"if I am under pressure and setting myself deadlines, I will stop for a few moments, and think of just one day and what I can do with it."

                                                      Happy New Year

Thank you Betty for your service and the daily. It's a great one to start the new year and is a reminder that I need to stay focused on the here/now - One Day at a Time.

I love the quote and agree that when I arrived, I truly wanted a 'quick fix' for a prolonged issue. Allowing my mind to be open enough to stay focused on the here and now has been such a relief and a gift. I admit at times, it may make me procrastinate, but my approach and style of the now is improved over the list-making, perfectionist I was before. I did not know how to relax or just 'be' many days, many times and was an unhappy person.

Happy, happy new year to you and yours! I'm grateful to be on this journey with you and hope your day is fantastic!!

(((Hugs)))

What is sweet for me is to relax and sit and take the time to listen to the elders such as yourself and all of the others on this board who have walked the walk and talked the talked giving it away to others.  I know for certain what blessings are since arriving in Al-Anon and MIP.  I know for certain.   Aloha to my Ohana ola...my healing family.  ((((hugs)))) wink
