Courage to Change 12-3

The C2C reading for December 3 speaks about meditation. The reading points out that Al-Anon does not tell us how to meditate but suggests that  we can draw on the experiences of other Al-Anon members to find out what would work for us.

It points out that some people practice meditation by remembering that every action can serve a spiritual purpose and another goes to a quiet place close their eyes and repeat the serenity prayer over and over in a gentle voice.

The reading suggests we need to get beyond our thoughts and concentrate on our breathing so that we can step back and watch our thoughts as if they were watching a play. We try to keep our attention on the present day leaving the past and future alone.

The final thought about meditation states: I pictured my higher power's hands. and one by one, I saw  my problems and worries, my joys and my gratitude and placed them into those hands, and I climbed in too.

What a wonderful vision and beautiful way to end the meditation.

Thanks Betty for the daily! This is one area for me that simple is better. I so struggle with sitting still, let alone trying to have my brain still. I am one who tries to be still with body in the hopes that the mind will follow. Some days/times are better than others.

I will say that the easiest way for me to be 'one thought focused' is through a repeating of either a slogan or the serenity prayer. I do believe that even if I struggle to still my mind/body, God speaks to me through all that is around me - events, people, places, thoughts, things.

I am hoping to continue working on this as there are so many benefits beyond serenity for meditation. Progress, not perfection for this area of the program is an accurate description for me.

Have a super Thursday!!

Read that page at the breakfast table with my spouse and compared the examples with my experiences.  The open HP hands is one meditation and dream sequence that I have had to use also and it works.  HP must like it also.  Thanks Betty  (((((hugs))))) smile
