So much is about Perception...

The moons must be aligned just so today...

Seems that many people I work with are UPSET about something today. REALLY UPSET. And upset about policies and procedures that just are the way they are, and must be followed for good reason. Seems that folks are determined to be very upset, regardless of any explanations or updates on progress toward resolution.

So, after fielding what must be my eighteenth call/email with "yelling at Sarah" tone & theme, I paused to reflect on how I was feeling about things. In the past, one such contact would send me racing to my boss, asking for feedback or confirmation about the process. Not so today. (His sabbatical and absence from the office could have something to do with that...)

Actually, I have been working with several other people to resolve issues in a positive way, and I have decided to focus my attention on those situations, and remember those conversations for reflections on my day. Not that I am avoiding dealing with the more negative communications, but I am looking at them in their proper perspective: people are upset, and I happen to be sitting at my desk. They are not upset with me, I just get to hear the frustration, directionless accusations, and illogical demands. It is ok for me to deal with them for what they are: frustration, directionless accusations, and illogical demands. They don't need to dictate my day or destroy my serenity.

Thanks to Alanon for these powerful program tools, at work today. smile

Yeah!
Yay for realising that everyone's stuff isn't about us and we don't have to take it on our own shoulders.
Also, great to hear from you
It's been a while and i was wondering how you were doing.
I hope you get some relief by coming to this board where today's theme is "hugs and accolades for Sarah"

19 minutes and counting...

Also, I called the internet company who was supposed to install internet at home today. I have been without for a few weeks. Seems there was confusion about my order and remote thermostat. (What? I ordered internet, not remote thermostat. And who wants remote thermostat urgently installed in August in WI anyway? Certainly not an urgent enough need to delay the entire project without calling to clarify the matter...) And, my dad has called and left message at a rate of more than one a hour regarding dinner plans and reservations for this coming Sunday with family members I have not seen or heard from in 15 years. Certainly, this cannot wait until I am off work in ... 17 minutes now.

I have decided to laugh about the absurdity of my entire day, go home, and snuggle puppy noses. Without internet, but with possible dinner plans for this coming Sunday.

Skorpi - I used to refer to those kinds of days and say, "The crazies are restless with the full moon..." cuz that is exactly how it seems!!!

So good to 'see' ya again - peace and continued good thoughts sent your way from my world. So good to see your program in action - yay for you and keep it up!

(((Hugs))) - if I can tell time, you've only about 9 minutes left until you get to call your dad! wink....wink....

Skorpi, thank you for your ESH and I total agree!  The tools I learned in Al-Anon

help me everyday to cope with all aspects of home and work life.  I work with

the public in the health/environmental field and listen to alot of anxiety and

fear and have learned to listen and not absorb.

Skorpi - I know I shouldn't but I LOL'd at your post. It so sounds like my world some days. When 1 thing goes different than desired, I tend to look around - they come in sets of 3 for me!!!

Hope it's a minor thing....hang in there and sorry about that....

AND... I am at a conference, with my car parked in a parking ramp, and my credit card info was stolen and used in a different state, so the company had the card deactivated for me. Now... Must locate a credit union service center so I can get my card out of the parking ramp at the end of the day... At least I am still laughing, right?

Staying detached, not sacrificing your serenity for any inconvenience is a powerful lesson to all of us. Thanks for sharing your recovery Skorpi-- It looks and sounds good on you.
