ODAT 7-10

The ODAT reading for today 710 is a very important one and one that I found difficult   accepting early on. It begins by suggesting that when a newcomer enters the room and explains their situation,it is important not to react because often their view of the situation is highly colored by theri confusion and a small incident could be blown out of proportion.

The reading suggests that our growth in Al-Anon brings us to have compassion for the alcoholic's deep guilt and unhappiness. As we apply the program, day by day we become willing to acknowledge that we too must share the responsibility for the family troubles.

Today's reminders suggests that  Al-Anon challenges me to cancel out my thoughts of grievances against others, especially the alcoholic; to face the real cause of much of my misery, and to believe that I can do a great deal to improve my life by rooting out my own shortcomings.

The quote for today. "If you are obtained by any external things look to yourself for release from it. When circumstances cause you to be disturbed, returned to yourself quickly, do not remain out of tune with the universal good."

When I first entered the rooms, I really honestly believed that I was perfect and always right and that all my problems were the result of other people's actions. To be truthful, many of my problems with the results of the people's actions, because of my inner false beliefs and old anger, resentment, self-pity and fear. With Al-Anon gave me the tools look within, without these issues, I was better able to live life on life's terms with courage serenity and wisdom.

Betty -

Again, thanks for the daily - I appreciate your service every morning and look for and forward to the daily and your ESH!

I had to find my book this morning - I forgot I had taken it on the road a bit yesterday....

What a great reminder of who I was and how I was when I got here. I too felt that I was just fine/perfect, and if everyone else would 'change', life would be rosy!

Boy - I am grateful that those who came before me had the wisdom, patience and grace to be kind and tolerant of me until I realized how this program works. I am beyond grateful for what this program has taught me and given me.

My favorite line from today's reading - "A whole new way of life opened up because I had the support and encouragement to take a fresh look at myself." This just speaks volumes to how the program, fellowship, steps and tools have worked for me...

Make it a perfect/great day!!
