I'm new--Are there online sponsors

Last week I went to my first Al-Anon meeting. It is a very small group with only 4 members all of them so much younger than me. I just think it would help if I had a sponsor that I might be able to relate better with. Maybe it wasn't just their age or maybe it was just me. I got the feeling they were a close group and what I needed could not always be met there. But I will try and go back because I need some 'in person' support. I first went to the wrong room where AA was meeting and I  felt a lot more welcome there.

Are there online sponsors?  I have some health problems that also might make it hard for me to make it to meetings also.

Welcome to MIP - so glad you are here!

There are 2 meetings here twice a day (check the top left for the schedule) and it has been discussed after the meeting before!

Feel free to attend one and then you can certainly get a feel for online meetings, online members and possibly find an online sponsor.

I do encourage you to go back for the F2F (face to face) as well. Maybe it was just a slow night for the meeting. If there are others in your town, try another!

Super glad you joined us!

smile Glad u are with us. Also happy to hear you are trying to take all the suggestions and get a sponsor soon. The last reply gave a lot of good suggestions. In case u weren't aware there are also Al-anon phone meetings listed on alanon.org under electronic meetings. These are really good as well-I enjoy hearing the voices between my face to face  f2f meetings. Many ppl get sponsors on there by asking for phone numbers (this is typically done at end of phone meeting) and then touching base between meetings with ppl u hear on the phone bridge that u relate to. Sometimes those relationships turn into a sponsorship or that person may help u find an available sponsor if she knows of someone. Other times there are ppl on the bridge who offer their number for sponsorship at end of meeting.

You have made a courageous & wonderful self caring step by joining- Welcome HOME!!

Welcome! I have asked this question a few months back as I started back into my program. One suggestion was to private message someone you find helpful and insightful - and I do that once or twice a week with one of the members who really "clicked" with me. It's not the same as sponsorship, but incredibly helpful nonethelss. :) Keep coming back!

I totally agree with what LedfootJenny said. I'm relatively new here myself but I have
gotten a couple messages from people here (thanks!) and I am amazed at how
giving of their hearts and time people here seem to be. I think many would be happy
to correspond with you were you to reach out.

Thanks for posting!

Mark

Another word for sponsor is "trusted friend" who knows the AlAnon program. Find someone who feels like a friend.
