The ODA T reading for today. May 20 speaks about working the 12 steps in both AA and Al-Anon. It points out that AA stresses that the alcoholic who works. The 12 step is bound to make great progress. This is also true for Al-Anon members..
The reading goes on to point out that we do not limit our aspirations in this program and that the Steps are a guide to a good living and as to such we should not deprive ourselves of their benefit by omitting them.
The reading suggests that when we read the Step we should think about it deeply because we will find that it opens the door to new insights. In addition when we read the step we will find new insights as the steps go deeper and deeper as we open ourselves up to the spiritual wisdom that they embody . The steps will then seep deep into our consciousness and light up the wonderful potential for good in all our relationships with life.
The quote is:If I had only half an hour of quiet time alone each day, I would devote it to studying the 12 steps. So they would ultimately become an integral part of my thinking."
After being in program for so many years I can confirm that this is true. The principles of the steps are now embedded deep within and I'm so pleased that I can practice these principles in most of my affairs. It is progress not perfection and I will never be perfect, but if I keep showing up and using these tools my life holds much joy and satisfaction.
I too look forward to Betty's posts! I agree also and enjoyed the reading when I went through it.
The 12 Steps keep me sane and grounded when I keep them entrenched in my days. My goal is to stay in the middle of the boat so there aren't waves and the ride is as smooth as possible.
Make it a great evening!
