ODAT 5-8

The ODAT reading for May 8 speaks about the gifts that are offered to us by practicing the Al-Anon program. It points out that "freedom "is one of the gifts that we receive.

When we come to Al-Anon we are prisoners of our own confusion and despair and by  working the program we are be able to release many of our fears and learn to understand the true nature of our situation.

The reading goes on to state that the gifts of Al-Anon, aret not without a price tag. They can only be achieved by paying the price of acceptance.. It is up to us to decide that the freedom from our despair is worth that price.

Success with the Al-Anon program demands that we think honestly and in depth about our attitudes, evaluating our words and actions. When these change from hostility to forgiveness from violence to quiet acceptance, our words and actions follow.

The quote is:"Freedom has many facets, but mostly it releases us from much that has been troubling and defeating  us. We pray for the release into freedom."

I have found that freedom from anger, resentment, self-pity and fear is really tremendous gift.Underneath all of these negative feelings  are true feelings of love, courage acceptance, wisdom, understanding and compassion. I love living my life  based on these attitudes
