The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
The ODAT reading for today, April 26, asks the question:' What do I want. Al-Anon to do for me?".
It points out that this program is a powerful tool for those of us who are brave enough to acknowledge our faults with courage and honesty. Al-Anon ask us to look at our good and bad qualities so that we can build on the good and whittle away at the destructive.,self deceptive tools that we have used to keep us from growing into the person we would like to be.
The reading goes on to point out that the 12 steps, slogans, serenity prayer and the loving concern of other Al-Anon members all help us if we are willing to cooperate. An important part of this reading suggests that my share in the job of rehabilitating myself is to study and practice the program, to meditate and pray, to attend meetings and to help others to understand and live the program.
Today's quote is from Isaiah; "the people that walked in darkness have seen a great light; they that dwell in the land of the shadow, upon them show the light shine."
I feel that prior to Al-Anon I walked in the shadow caused by destructive, negative, reactive feelings and responses to life. Entering program and picking up the tools that are recommended. I can now respond to life on life's terms with courage serenity and wisdom. Thank you HP and Al-Anon
What I want Al-Anon to do for me is to help me move through life's challenges in a way that preserves my peace of mind and helps me be the best me that I can be.

All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another! ~ Anatole France
Thank you Betty for sharing each and every day on the readings. I look forward to them each morning. Although I have not done a lot of sharing lately, I am very grateful to you and many of the other veteran members for posts and ESH on various topics. It really helps to give me a healthier perspective.
