Last night my AH and I were having a discussion about his sister, who I will kindly referred to as a bit "eccentric". He always has difficulty dealing with her thought processess whenever she e-mails or writes him. She actually lives in the same town that we do, but her topics and requests are so bizarre that she always posts a letter to him or e-mails him. Well her most recent e-mail was to request a car that we bought from their mother's estate five years ago. I usually use it to go to work because it is much more fuel efficient than my pontiac. One of the brothers was having truck problems and she volunteered our car and e-mailed my AH to request the "family car" for that brother. Well AH went of the wall and talked to the brother with the truck problems, who was very embarassed that the sister took upon herself to request our car for him in the manner that she did. In the midst of AH's ranting and raving, I said to him that he needs to handle her the way one would handle an alcoholic, with detachment and love. He stopped and looked at me with that "deer in the headlight" look and then agreed with me, obviously never making the connection with how I use those methods with him when he is very unreasonable and nasty. Just wanted your thoughts, because it was such an interesting interaction.
