K well for some reason I have been getting triggered and my anxiety attacks have started again. I have been practicing so I responded to it better this time. I went to a chair... Focused on the present moment and told my body it was safe. It worked just makes you completely exhausted!!! I cannot wait for sleep tonight
I didn't even know I was having anxiety attacks until 2 years ago. My daughter is 16 and she has had them. Ironically having less contact with her father has helped tremendously and ditto that for mine too. Honestly some of the triggers for mine were smells, situations, even something in the air, like I smell when rain is coming .. lol .. I do that with snow too, that would seem harmless to others would set me into over drive. I guess mine was PTSD related so I have been being treated for PTSD which has since gotten soooo much better. EMDR was the way to roll for me in that regard I processed so much in a very short time.
Good self care. I still can't totally tell I'm having anxiety however I can tell I feel "off".
If you are having to deal with the X more at this point or having similar situations, it helps me to figure out what the triggers are and I can mentally prepare myself if I do feel off in some way I do what you did and just remind myself I am safe and everything really is ok.
Hugs S :)
PS - My daughter hasn't had any anxiety attacks recently, she has felt anxiety about dealing with her dad and me when it comes to that situation ... she has tremendous coping skills which she has learned through therapy.

I use the Serenity Prayer combined with deep breathing to decrease anxiety. I think re-focusing myself, on the prayer or speaking to someone also helps. Journaling can help. It can be a good time to call your sponsor or alanon friend to share with. I also make myself realize that this moment shall pass. And as bad as anxiety feels, it doesn't kill you. Deepak Chopra says whatever arises, can subside. I like that saying, Lyne
Thanks for the input ... The triggers are hard to predict some you know some you don't. I have been told there is apart of your brain that is suppose to filter personal attacks and I don't think it is working properly. I have triggers around the words my ex-A used to abuse. I logically know it is not a personal attack when I hear the word but my body doesn't. This one was on tv for goodness sakes.
Anyway ... I did good though because I can recognize it and instead of panic ... I am responding. I just get so tired after it .. Feels like I ran a marathon.
That's where being in touch with me and knowing when I feel off makes huge difference so that I can respond differently the next time.
Exactly that's what happens to me, it can be something crazy .. a co worker was out and smelled of alcohol now I do drink from time to time .. however smelling the beer on him just threw me for a tizzy.
It can be a commercial about something totally unrelated, or a tv show about domestic violence or just hearing someone else speak.
Thanks, S :)
