Hudsond/about your doggy?

I am so sorry to hear about your doggy that was shot. (((((((((doggy))))))) Do you mind sharing anything about the situation or information. I will say prayers for his recovery and if possible, can you update us on him. That is so touching what your A said. It just shows how much they want to quit drinking and how it is such a horrible disease to overcome! Wishing you all the best in your alanon journey too. cdb xoxoxoxoxo

Thank you for asking.  Big Dog is a bulldog.  We have tried to keep him in a fence because he loves to run around  and thinks he owns the countryside.  Now I can see why people would be afraid of a stray dog, but we live in a very rural area and everyone knows whose dog he is and that really he is a sweet dog!  (He is nothing but a big baby--loves attention and only gets upset if he thinks something is going to harm us, but even the UPS and postman will get out and deliver with him around.)

Anyway he sleeps in the house and one night he just seemed really sad.  He was also stinking and so my husband made him go outside to sleep.  The next night when he came in he still stunk and his eye was a little swollen, but not very badly.  Well the next night he was looking terrible--eye was bloodshot (extremely) and he would just stand there.  He would wag his tail a very little bit but wouldn't look at us when we called his name.  Then he just cried most of the night, it was soooo pitiful.  My husband had some penicillian so he gave him a shot.  (He was also drooling--so at this point I was afraid he had been scratched by a coon)  Anyway we put him in the utility room so incase he went a little crazy noone would be hurt.  The next morning I checked on him, he would wag his tail but didn't really move.  My husband took him to the vet, but the vet couldn't really see anything.  They couldn't get his mouth open, it was like it was locked into place.  They just thought he had gotten an absess in his jaw and it had turned into some horrible infection.  So they gave him some meds and sent him home.  That night he started bleeding from his nose and mouth and my husband couldn't stand it!!!  He took him to a vet hospital where they x-rayed him and found a couple of bullets.  They operated and got one out.  The other one they can't get, but they think it will be alright, or they may try again later.

They hooked him up to an IV and he was feeling better even before the surgery.  He was up and moving around that afternoon after surgery--not much, but a little.  My husband is going to check on him as I type.

You know I didn't even really want that dog when we got him.  I was afraid to have a bulldog around my kids, but he really is a very sweet dog!!! I was very upset myself when he was so sick.  Now I am hoping that everything is fine and he can return home to drive me crazy some more--he loves to about push you down to get some lovin'.

Thanks for asking--I hope this wasn't too long!

Hello hudsond,

Of course this wasn't too long! That poor doggy :(  He is lucky to have survived 2 bullets! wow! Who in the world would do that to a dog! I am glad he is doing better and the vet could help him. Yes, my husband and I did not want to get close to our daughter's dog either. Now, I am very attatched to him! I have this feeling he may be at our house sometime too but who knows. I said that dog will never be at our house. How are hearts change when we don't think they will :) Thanks for sharing that with me. Let me know how he progresses. cdb :)

I am so sorry to hear this.  I cannot imagine that someone would do that. When I was a child the next door neighbors used to shoot our dog with a bb gun. I think it has taken me years to come to terms with that. I know they were deprived, angry and bored.

I go nuts when my dogs get out because I have intense fears of them being run over.  I also even go out of my way to tell my neighbors when their dogs get out. I just can't bear to think of dogs being lost.

My two dogs are some of my best supports emotionally they are a lot of work but always happy and give me a great deal of love and affection.
