i enjoy doing 5k run/walk with friends. so far i have ran for abused wives, cancer, AIDS, children's hospital,...ect. i feel they are a good pick me up and nice time away from the kids, while still helping a good cause.

does anyone know of some sort of 5k run/walk that benefits alcoholic families, family shelters,...

i think i would enjoy that b/c the disease effects my family personally.

any info is appreciated!

thanks----flintfeet

Maybe call the shelters in your local area, they would know. I think that many of them operate under the umbrella of the United Way - do you have that where you are?

Alanon and AA of course can't participate as an organization in things like this, as it is against the traditionsi. However, I bet many individual members do, or would if they knew about it.

If you can't find a run with your purpose in mind, then run for yourself and your family with your purpose in your mind.   Or ask a few friends to join in for your reasons, if you trust them.  If you were looking to donate $, do it individually after your run.  It's all the same.

Keep running!

I think it is sweet that you want to run for a purpose, I wonder if you should just run for yourself - cause you are a GREAT cause!!! I am a runner at heart myself. Cyndee
