taking care of yourself physically, mentally, spiritually - ever notice when

Ever notice when things are going well its easier to take care of yourself physically (diet, exercise, water) and the focus is less on spiritually?

But when there's an issue youre more focused emotionally and taking care of yourself physically tends to slide?

Ive noticed that taking care of myself physically has been sliding.

i totally feel you!

i feel like i have to pick one or the other. i try to balance it out, but things do slide. right now i am all about the physical. that in itself makes me feel good. hopefully sometime soon, i can find some time for the emotional and have a well balanced life.

things always circle around.

Absolutely true! When there is soooo much going on there is little time to focus on one's self and one's needs. It can be exhausting, then you are too tired to do much. It can also at times be depressing, then you are apt to do even little towards much of anything short of getting out of bed! LOL

You could try setting a schedule and keeping to it. For me, even that is hard in good or bad spirits or with or without stress. I'm just a bit ADD though sometimes, ha ha.

For me, putting the time aside to go out golfing with my friends is one way I can "escape", get a little excercise and well deserved mental break away from things. I suppose there are lots of ways anyone can take breaks away, it's just better/easier to do something you like and enjoy and can share among friends! It's harder to have that discipline when you are solo though I imagine....still, I suppose where there is a will, there is a way!

Barbara,

Yup, I certainly get what you are saying.  I wish I had some good experience to share, but I am afraid I am right there with you.  I AM trying not to be too hard on myself about not finding my balance in life yet.   I tend to be too hard on myself for not accomplishing enough in a day.  I know there is time that I am not putting to good use, but I sometimes tend to think I don't have a single minute to spare.

What I am trying to do now is make shorter lists and feel good about even a short walk around the block for exercise.   I'm setting LONG term goals for health and well being.  This is much different from the way I used to think.  I'm now trying to establish a good lifestyle as opposed to my old "need to lose 5lbs. to fit in that little black dress this weekend only to regain the weight next week!" mentality.  Ya know what i mean?  I am also not trying to do everything that needs to be done.  I have learned to ask for help and this opens up more time to take care of myself!

That was completely my weekend!  I have been really healthy recently and lost a good amount of weight.  Ate nothing processed, no sugar, no salt etc.  This weekend I was feeling emotionally exhausted because of my A and at pizza, ice cream, and chips!  I have not had those things in months.  And, um, I don't really even like chips.  Interesting how something we turn to for comfort in the end just makes us feel crummier.

So health went out the window, but I did communicate more with friends than I had in a long time.  And in the end, they are both important to our health.

It's all a juggle act.  When I wake up each morning, I ask myself:

What will I do physically for myself?  Run, exercise

What will I do mentally/spiritually for myself? read odat, go to church

Then I look for something to physically do for someone else. help out at school

Then I look for some mental/emotional support I can give someone else.  call someone, give a complement

I see it as only 4 things to do.  But you are right, sometimes that plate slips!!
