The addict and birth defects?

Hello friends,


Does anyone know of any new evidence or studies on the past usage of meth/drugs/alcohol in the male or female and birth defects or future developmental problems? With all the different drugs that addicts may have used that have such toxic chemicals in them, I can only think that it must effect the addicts body somehow so when they do conceive it can effect the fetus or child later on. I remember years ago when science use to think that fetal alcohol syndrome was caused from the female only and and then later proved that it was caused from the male too. I am not familiar on the newest studies and am hoping someone that reads this   knows the answer or where to find it out. Thanks, cdb :)

I think it is mostly from the mom; lots of problems with crack babies, so they are called; but that is primarily if the mom is using while pregnant.  Not familiar with any studies about prior usage; you might try www.medscape.com or medline.

There is a theory that smoking pot may have something to do with autism.

It skips a generation.

I believe anything we do, eat, use etc. affects us in some way, male or female.

To me it is common sense. That does not make me right though.
