Bridgewater, MA Correctional Institution - brother may be going tomorrow

My mother called. She went to the courthouse today and told them about my brother. Fri morn before 9am my mother is to go to the courthouse to get the procedure started. They will then return to her house to get my brother. Take him by cruiser. When they get back to the courthouse he'll meet w/a doctor, get a court appointed lawyer and appear before a judge. My mother will be there to tell her story. This should all happen before noon.

My mother was told my brother will be going to Bridgewater for 30days. Here he'll be forced to attend AA meetings. He'll be put on Antibuse to detox. He'll need to wear prison clothes, etc. We cannot call him but he can call out collect. He'll be in a cell w/1 other person. Locked ward, state pays.

She'll have the option of having a restraining order put against him when he's released.

Does anyone else have any idea what may happen?

((((Barbara))))

I am glad to hear that your mother is taking care of herself in this situation.  I know it has been rough on you worrying about her with your brother in the house.  As to what will happen to him while there, I can only guess.  Be prepared for some extreme anger from him.  I hope however, that he hears the message of AA.

Good luck to you all.

Karen

Dear Barbara,

Just want to let you know I am thinking of you.

I am not in the same country, so my experience will be different. Last year, I had to have my son committed to a psychiatric ward for 28 days. In fact, the worry and not knowing what was going to happen were worse than the reality.

He refused meds for nearly 2 weeks, until he realised they would get a further order and force him to take them. He is home now, and very much better (no delusions etc) - but remains on medication. However, he is picking up his life again, and has insight into fact that his drug use caused the problem.

Sometimes, we just have to admit our powerlessness - sounds like you and your mom are doing this. Your brother's condition just too serious for you to handle. You are doing the best you can, for him, and for yourselves.

Keep us posted,

Lots of love,

Flora

Thanks everyone - It was a very hard night sleeping.

I know his problems are out of our hands. Im hoping this gets him the help he seems to so desperately need.

Im truly glad I found the AlAnon program.
