Accountability

To be able to Let Go... to realize that I am only accountable for myself, for my own actions ... to know that I am not responsible for/accountable for others ... that they too have a Higher Power (which is NOT me) that they are accountable to ... that all I need to do is look at myself and change those things about me which hinder my own growth and recovery and keep me from being the best person I can be...  what a freeing process this is!!!  The weight of the world with all its problems does NOT rest on my shoulders!  Yay!!  Gotta love this program.

Absolutely Kis, and that's why I love the fact that I was able to change my perspective, to start seeing Step 1 as a good thing, rather than a negative!  When I first came to Al-Anon, Step 1 seemed like such a weakness - I was disillusioned to learn that I was powerless over my wife, her alcoholism, etc....  What a blessing it was, as I learned so much more, when I realized the freedom and removal of guilt, when I accepted the correlation that "if I am powerless over her, then I guess I'm NOT responsible for it either!!"

What seems simple now, did NOT seem very simple then.

Great share

Tom
