Does anyone know of any message boards for family members of crack addicts?

no I dont

I used to be a crack head...been clean since 9/1/02.

I understand your question but just keep in mind that the basis of any addiction is the same.

crack IS a powerful drug and the behaviors are very distructive. all the way around.

and I already know about the lies and the manipulations and that you cant seem to trust anything that they say.

Its hard and i know.

but addiction is the same as an alcoholism (except one is legal the other isnt)

the family needs to learn to detatch from this person. for your sanity.

until they want to quit.

since detatchment is the best way to deal with this, than this is the best place for you to be.

just some thoughts

Jayda,

I totally agree that addiction is addiction whether it is to alcohol or drugs but I can also understand the need to feel like others get you. There are many, many people here who are affected by drugs and alcohol, some to not specify the drug of choice.

Just some thoughts,
Read some of the old posts, maybe they will help you to feel more connected.
Post a specific post on the fact that you qualifier is a crack addict and ask if anyone else is affected by this drug.
Go to the main page, there is a Narcotics Anonymous section, maybe if you post on their board asking if they know where there is info on Naranon you might get some replies from addicts in recovery.

Whatever you do, keep coming back, you will find support here, regardless of the drug of choice.

My husband is a crack addict - over the years I have occasionally come across boards where the focus is more on that drug. Unfortunately, they tend to not be very well attended- I would post a message, and not get a reply for a week or more. Eventually I'd stop going, only to find, next time I looked, that the site was gone.

The techniques needed by you are the same, no matter your loved one's drug of choice. In that way, this board will be helpful to you. The only real difference I have found is that crack addicts tend to be much more compulsive than alcoholics are described as - even with three years clean and sober, my husband still is very prone to compulsive behaviour, going at things for ten hours, trying to break away and do something else, but being drawn back in. Still, my way of dealing wth it has to be the alanon way - take care of myself, focus on myself, love him for what he is, and not expect more from him than what he is freely offering. Life is not perfect at our house, but I am coming more and more to the realization that MY actions and MY choices have a lot to do with this.

Keep coming back here, I know we can help you.

Jayda,

No I don't know of any boards for family members of crack addicts.

My husband is an alcoholic addict and his drugs of choice are pot and meth. I know from talking to him that there many differences between addicts depending on their drug of choice. I have come here many times to share my pain, and my recovery and no one has every made me feel unwelcome because of the fact that my husband chooses to drug more than to drink.

If you ever need an ear, I am more than willing to listen.

Keep Coming Back.

Much Love,
