Making Amends To One's Self

Dear Roomies,

A while back I read from Courage to Change an entry that explores the idea of not only making amends to others, but to oneself.

As I approach February, the month of valentines, friendship, and love, I am considering spending this month with a special intention of loving myself, and through this loving of myself beginning to make amends to myself.

In light of this intention, I'd be interested in hearing from you all amends that you've made to yourself--formally or informally, intentionally or unintentionally, through the steps, or even though you haven't quite gotten to the amends steps yet-- since entering the program. I'd welcome hearing tidbits, anecdotes, stories, testimonies of the amends you made to yourself.

Or, if you haven't made amends to yourself yet, amends that you HOPE to make.

Let the stories of self-amends and self-love flow!

I look forward to hearing what are sure to be rich shares!

Hi BlueCloud,

This may sound really simple, I don't even know how it came to happen. One day I sat down and thought of all the times I had felt things I did not like. Hurt pride, shame over my behavior and reactions, shame from putting myself in this position, the worry over what my closest family, friends thought, obsessing, manipulating. Somewhere I found a way to forgive myself for these feelings and for making myself feel worse berating myself for having them. It gave me the freedom to be able to feel them and let them go, not dwell on it anymore. To me this was the biggest thing I could do for myself. Well ... and continue to do for myself when the need arises

What a lovely idea. I have panic attacks at night (because of child abuse).  I am gong to try counselling again for that.  It is too hard to try to do this all alone. The A of course is no help. Only he is allowed problems after all!  He is the only one with them wouldn't you know?

Lucky thing huh?

Maresie.
