AlAnon conference questions

Can parents attend AlAteen w/their teen? What about that speaker meeting 230-330? My son has never attended and right now isnt showing interest. Im thinking for $10 may as well sign him up just in case he wants to attend. I mean they're having pizza! lol

How many workshops are in that 830am-11pm time frame on Sat? Any idea if there are breaks? Are they continuous? any idea what the workshop topics would be?

Barbara,

All meetings are open unless otherwise specified on the schedule you will receive when you arrive.  In the past there have been some closed Alateen meetings but not often.  Topics may not have been decided upon at this early date, however, each meeting usually lasts for 50 mins.  There is also usually multiple meetings going each hour for variety.  There are short breaks in between meetings.  You are not obligated to attend a meeting each hour.  I have in the past taken time in between meetings to reflect on the previous meeting or to meet new people that are mingling around.  All the topics are program related, some fun & lighthearted and some more serious. If you have a topic in mind that you would like to see shared on try calling any of the committee members and sharing it with them.  The speaker meeting you refer to will probably be someone in the higher levels of our service boards.  Many of them have wonderful and encouraging stories of how to strengthen our recovery through service.

I hope this answers all of your questions.  Again I hope you have the opportunity to attend - I find them to be so awesome.

Karen

Hi Barbara , I don't know anything about the confence your talking about  but parents are asked to not come with thier teens to thier meeting, it's very important that the kids have the freedom to speak and having a parent there would hinder that .

If you really wanted to go the sponsor should ask the other teens if they mind you being there, if they say yes  it's ok . teens get to decide since it's th ere meeting . *which is kinda neat I think"     And a speaker meeting is a good time to introduce program to him it's alot more relaxed  enviorment .  good luck

But then again you are the parent and you could make him go .  hehe  My sponsor did  she told her kid that if the parents were in recovery so was she going to be, like it or not.  I wish I had done that would have made things alot easier for every one.  but alas I didn't

good luck again   Louise
