HP in action

My husband changed jobs two months ago after twelve years at the same company, the only job he ever had. He had two offers to choose from. One paid a little more than the other and the company had been around for close to 20 yrs. The other one was for a start up company that paid a little less and had only been around for a couple of months.

I felt he should choose the company I saw as more stable. We are living with his father right now renting out half of his house while we pay off debt. We are finally turning a corner on that and are looking to buy our own place in the next two years. But housing is so expensive it is looking like that would be hard to do. So, I thought every little bit helps, right? I thought he should go with the more stable place and take the higher pay, at least we could be assured of a steady paycheck. When he asked my opinion I gave it to him but my sponsor had reminded me nothing is forever and it's not my job so I might want to let him think about choosing his own happiness. So I agreed. I told him what I thought but told him I would accept his choice whatever it was.

Well, he chose the start up and I have to say while I told him I would accept his choice I was quietly pissed. But I didn't act it and I didn't say anything, I just tried to accept it and let go of it, which I eventually did. He seems happy at the new job. He gets to work from home, which is nice because he used to have a two hour commute each way and we never saw each other. He negotiated 1% ownership in the company when he took the job, which didn't mean much to me because I thought who cares it is just on paper.

Well HP was looking out for us in this one. All our praying about what to do about the housing thing. The company may only be a few months old but as of today there are four offers to buy it, which means that 1% may be coming in sooner than expected. What a nice downpayment that would be on a house. We never thought we could do it but suddenly it looks like it might be possible. I'm not holding my breath or anything because it hasn't actually happened. But I am kind of secretly smiling at my HP for working this in the background. He does know better than me....
