when crisis seems over - is this time ppl decide to stay or leave?

Things are calm (for the moment). Is this another time when ppl decide to either stick w/AlAnon or leave? Other time being in the beginning - should I attempt this or give up?

Seems like my problem w/A (for the moment) is over. If I stick around it would be for working on ME (like ppl say to do from the beginning). Maybe there's something in the program that will help me when things get out of hand again? Maybe its time to focus on me?

Does this make sense to anyone?

When there is little crisis or drama that is usually the time people relax and don't work on themselves, HOWEVER I have found it is the most important time for me to work the program.  Your getting it...keep up the great work.

Is t his the time to leave Al-Anon ???  quite frankly I hope i never leave this program , my husb is sober `16 yrs  and today i know that the biggest problem in my life is me.   My husb is an A and always will be and i react to him .  Al-Anon keeps the focus on me and my problems and allows me to leave his with h im  , where they belong.

Life throws us curves from time to time and al anon helps me get thru them on a daily basis , this is a program for living and i plan on living a little while yet. Everything in this prog is designed to m ake my life better and to help me feel better about me .  Every relationsip i have has been improved by working these steps on a daily basis.  Leave Al-Anon ???? NOT

I hope you stay you are worth the effort .   Louise

Barbara,

Most of us find Alanon while we are in crisis. We come looking for a way to help deal with it. We come looking to help our A's. Through Alanon we discover that we cannot help them, but we can help themselves. Often by helping ourselves in the chain, we do end up helping our A's or other family members. When you change one thing in a situations, you can end up changing the whole dynamics of the situation.

We come here for them, but we stay for us.

When dealing with an Alcoholic, one thing that you can set your watch by is that crisiss will occur at some points. Knowing how to deal with ourselves and how we should react and keeping oursleves strong can be half the battle.

There is always a calm after a storm, and it is easy to just ride it out, until the next time.

You are worth the effort. You have to do what works for you, but I hope you decide to stay, for you, because you are worth it.

                                                 Love Jeannie

I will be a lifer in Alanon. It is there for me during the good times and the bad. It teaches me how to live my life in the most healthiest way I can. There are times when I work my Program VERY hard, and sometimes I can coast thru doing maintenance enjoying the scenery as I go.

Personally, I hope you don't leave the Program just because things are going well.

It is a way of life.

Hi Barbara-
I have been a foul-weather alanoner myself. However, I come back more now even when the crises pass. It is a safe home. As I examine my life more closely now, I find questions to post whether my A is abusing himself chemically or not. It has been a long haul and has changed both of us in many ways--maybe you, too, will see places where you need us OR (and this part is so important) we need you!! that being said--I don't F2F much at all. I know it would be valuable but I have so many other needs for my time.
take care-
Jeanne

Barbara,

I can't imagine leaving something that is helpful to me. To me it would be like stopping my blood pressure medicine because it's under control. It's under control because I do what is healthy for me, and it's helps me. It's another tool to use in defence of my disease.

I find that when I become too comfortable in things, that's when I get bit! Thank you no! I've been bit enough in my life. Why take the chance?

Live strong,
Karilynn

For me the Program is for Life. Bringing God and spirituality into my life once again has changed me and my attitude about many things. I never want to be without God again.
