this week I set goals for myself

I accomplished alot this weekend and felt the need to set some goals for myself this week.  Since I do not have a lot of hobbies (well, actually none at all) and not alot of friends to do things with I felt like I needed of course to focus more on me than feeling like that (ya think?).  I decided to take my yard sale money and purchase some yoga stuff (a mat, a CD) and start doing yoga.  I made a "goal sheet" for myself and put it on the refrig.  I figured since I hate to exercise in public (gyms and stuff) it was something I could do at home, would help me get in shape, is meditative and would keep me busy.  I made a goal to stick to my diet and bring lunch.  Two days and going strong....Two days ironically enough and I haven't spoken to my A.  I'm sad that I haven't in a way, but it is not killing me! I am more focused at work. I have more of myself to give to me. This feels good. Now the trick is sticking to it.  But, one day at a time, right?

That is soooooo cool Kim..... Yep, one day at a time, and good for you, in remembering small, achievable goals, the accountability (fridge!), etc....  All very good stuff, and very good nourishment for your soul....

Kim,

Very good! Yoga and pilates are those exerices in which you have to focus on what you're doing. It's meditative and encourages a peaceful mind. You can't watch TV, gab on the phone and do yoga at the same time. Otherwise you'll end up like you did when you use to play Twister as a kid! Remember?

I find that doing something challenging that requires concentration is a good way to distract yourself. If I'm feeling anxious or can't let something go, I do a crossword, puzzle. Or maybe cook a really complicated recipe. Baking in particular is good because you have to measure everything. You can't just dump things in a bowl. I actually learned how to make puff pastry one day. It was time consuming, a pain in the next at times but boy it really took my mind off of my problems. I was so busy concentrating on how many times I had to fold the pastry over (35 what?!!) that I forgot all about my A and what he may or may not have been doing! I can't say that it was the best thing I ever made, and I'll never do it again. (They have frozen ones that are much better.) But at the time it saved me from giving into feelings that were not productive.

It's a matter of finding little tricks to cope on a daily basis that keep us from going nuts. I'm proud of you. Keep up the good work. Happy exercising!

Live strong,
Karilynn
