The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method

information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
Not sure of the title, and nervous about literature that is not approved by Al-Anon....
Are you referring to the "Getting Them Sober" series, by Toby Rice Drews? If so, they are awesome, in my humble opinion..... Very good and easy reads..... THere are four volumes out (Toby is working on a 5th), and all great stuff...

Getting them Sober is a great book with a deceiving name. As we all know, or quickly learn after coming here, is that we simply don't have the power to get them sober. However this book is a great tool for *us*. Also, often times, once we learn the do's and dont's of loving an addict/alcoholic........we create the best possible atmosphere in order for them to desire to seek recovery. Once we learn what enabling is and how to stop it, once we learn how to detach with love, once we learn how to take our entire focus off the A and put it where it belongs,,back on ourselves, then we are in effect creating a positive environment for them by not interferring with their HP's plan.
Courage to Change is another great tool for us. It's a daily reader, so there's really no *getting through it* pressure or anything. What I love about that as well as the other daily readers is that in the back it lists subjects where a lot of us have had troubles, and it gives all the pages that touch on those subjects. I do alot of work with my sponsees thru those books and it helps a lot.
I think the absolute best tool for us believe it or not is the Big Book of AA. It helps us so much in understanding this disease, plus there are a few chapters that speak directly to us.....the family. Also, all the suggestions in that book directed toward the A and his addiction, can also apply to us and our *addiction* to the A and his disease. All of the step work questions I do are from that book.

I actually asked Toby the question direct, and she reminded me that her "volume one" is the title you have quoted.... Yes, it is CAL approved literature. From a personal perspective, I found her volume one to be THE best book I have ever read on alcoholism, living with an alcoholic, etc....
Toby also reminded me that she has added a new feature to her website, where you can read select excerpts from each of her four books, free of charge, online....
I am certainly not trying to chase anyone away from this site, but I use the GTS site to supplement my recovery program.....

Hi Barbara I would be very interested in your opinion on the book. I have actually ordered it but I am waiting for it to arrive. Tom has been a Godsend and the site he recommends on the web is great. Luv Leo xx
