new here

Just wanted to introduce myself before I headed to bed. I live with an alcoholic husband. He recently had a kidney removed due to cancer. Seems to be that should have been enough for him to turn his life around and cut down on his drinking. But no! When he was out of work recuperating he actually drank more!

I finally decided its time to work on me. Recently joined Curves (even though my weight is at maintaining at goal) and a different Catholic church in our town. (felt other Church wasnt giving me what I need).

Went to an Al-Anon meeting but didnt return. Did go years ago but dont feel they really helped. Here I am though. Where should a newcomer start? (or did I?) Looking forward to "speaking" with everyone.

Hi Barbara

Welcome to the MIP community. Taking that first step, of changing routines and beliefs is not easy. You are off to a good start, this program works wonders, I know it has in my life. You have to work it though, at times it can be difficult, and things may seem to get worse, but its like when it is raining in the spring......it might be hard but so much comes out of the experience in the end. I am better able to cope with my emotions instead of letting them control me. My best wishes to you on your journey of recovery as well as to your husband, that he will make the decision to seek recovery himself one day.

Welcome Barb.... here's hoping that you will find a lot of experience, strength, and hope among the membership here, as there are lots of wonderful people who post on MIP...  I'd be interesting in hearing about your Al-Anon experience, and why it was less than satisfying for you???  The first time I went to Al-Anon, I thought it was just a bunch of "old ladies complaining about their alcoholic husbands", and I didn't return for almost two years...  Two years later, I came back, more in need than ever, and have grown to love many of these people whom I once judged.... Boy, did they ever get smart in that two year absence, lol....

Hope you keep posting, and welcome

Tom
