our two cars are in my name and i want to get his out of my name and to get the plates and turn them in. otherwise tickets and trouble will come to me and i cant afford any more problems in my life right now. my family said report the car stolen but i dont want him to get any trouble. he has enough problems. plus i do still love him but i know we cant be together. i cant trust him and if i cant trust my own husband i cant stay married i want a clean break at least for now.
As far as I know u go to your local auto insurance and do it from there and that is a really good idea chrissy. gotta protect yourself . good luck Louise
Chrissy, take the title to the car to the Motor Vehicle Department after you have signed the car over to him, which on the back side of the title you can do. A new title will then be issued in his name. Be prepared though, as taxes on the value at transfer must be paid plus the cost for the new title. Some states allow one spouse to transfer ownership free of charge to the other; some do not. By "free of charge," I mean that value taxes are sometimes forgiven, but you still have to purchase the new title. Good luck, Diva

I just did this. Take the plates to motor vehicle and surrender them. They will give you a green receipt which is what you will have to fax to you insurance company and then they'll cancel your policy. After that you can give him the title signed over. Done. I was finshed in a few minutes and relieved of tons of stress.
well this is the problem. Just sit tight and when he does come home with the car, take the plates and the registration off the car. Do not let it sit without immediately going to DMV. If the title is is your name it is still your responsibility. Also, according to the police whom I called when this happened to me (except I knew where he was and got there) the car is considered marital property no matter whose name it's under (the beauty of being married to an A). At any rate, as he has come home beofre, he will again. It may take time, but he will turn up. Then you can take care of this. I'll be praying for you.
