I thought the holiday weekend was going to be dull...wrong!

I needed to get a Clackamas County library card, which is the last of the four available around here. They only give 30 minutes net time, but it's better than nothing. The nearest branch is an hour away by transit. As I have no clue yet where I'm gonna be living or working, better safe than sorry.

Someone told me about Waterfront Park, along the Willamette River. It's even nicer than the Park Blocks (Portland's answer to New York's Central Park). It's a good long walk as well. Get off the light rail at Oak/SW1st, face the river, walk one block and follow the paths. Best to do this when there is plenty of time and on weekends be prepared to dodge bicyclists, strollers, bladers, boarders, joggers and other walkers often! It's nice to walk along the river and watch stupid boater tricks. There's the Riverplace marina at the other end of the path with high-dollar restaurants. Finally, it's on to the streetcar at the Riverplace end and back to the train.

Piet Mondrian painted "Hyderabad Boogie-Woogie"; he could have come here and painted a Portland Doggie-Woggie instead. This is a dog-friendly town with every breed imaginable likely somewhere around. Restaurants (and people) cater to dogs in a big way here.

The grieving is beginning; that and the depression are shutting me down. It's all I can do to just go through the motions. This is coming at a time when I need to be at my sharpest and I just can't do it! Add money problems to it (more $$$ is coming soon I know--have to wait for it) and it's a nightmare. I could use a few extra prayers right now; I need them!

Infinite gratitude to all...

Haxi I have been following your "adventure", and you can look at it as seeing country as you would have never seen. Have you considered applying at a restaurant for employment? As most who worked there to this point were there as summer jobs and are now back at school. You very well may land a job in one of them til you get  another. I know of a woman who left her husband and worked at MacDonald's to make ends meet while she went to school at night , to further her academic level. Now she is doing well , working in a dental office, and is financially able to take care of herself and her 2 children. She was 40 when this all began. Just a suggestion to help you in these hard times. Good luck....gardengal
