I got a question about meetings...

I found meetings in my area finally but the page I printed out has "beginner meetings and regular meetings"  do I go to a beginner meeting.  I am new to this and I am not sure of the protocal.  If anyone knows what I have to do or bring please let me know.  Thank you

Hi Kimme

Go to either meeting.

If you can go to the beginner meeting first, that is best.

let them know you are a beginner. There might be other beginners there too.

The alanon program will be explained to you and they will give you some brochures.

My old group gave me a "courage to change book"
My new group (I moved) sells the book for $10.

In my group we sit in a circle and someone gives a topic.

Then we take turns sharing on the subject.

There is no "cross talk" maning let someone finish and don't comment on their share.

You can share or not share your choice.

We have a basket that you can put a donation in if you can afford it. Some give change some a dollar or 2 or more if they can.

Stay after the meeting if you can and you can crosstalk then and meet the people.

WELCOME

let us know how it goes

Yeah, don't worry too much about doing something wrong. Everybody there remembers how hard it was to come into that first meeting, they will tell you anything you really need to know, you don't have to talk if you don't want to.
Some groups are really strict about cross talk, some aren't, but they'll let you know. Any meeting I have ever been to, we never expect the beginners to go first, we let them see how things are done.
It is not at all unusual for people to just cry through their first few meetings, and not be able to say anything. Nobody will think it strange if you do this - all alanon meetings have lots of kleenex!
