HMMMM?

Hi All,

I feel so tired today, after all the stress of the last two weeks it seems that I just need a nap.  LOL Here I am at work thinking I can’t wait to get home and lay down.

My A spent some time with his buddy last night, the two of them drinking talking about his buddy’s dad having to be moved to a convalescent home.  They will try to make him comfortable until he passes.  I listened as my A shared some of the emotions he is going through.  (He does not share emotions very well as he is a “tough” guy)  It is sad to know that this man dying is dying from years and years of alcohol dependency.  Last year when I got mad and threw the phone at my A, which resulted in my arrest for domestic violence; he had been drinking with his buddy for 10 hours, they were distraught about the dad having only 10-15% of his liver functioning.  How the doctors told him that this man will die in a year or less if he continues to drink.  This man stopped drinking for 2 months; he was unbearable for his own children to be around.  Now this year they found over 9 blood clots in his legs, directly connected to his alcohol consumption.  How can my A not see this is progressive disease?  He lost his grandfather before we met to alcohol; I can’t name the people he knows that have had DUI’s or Reckless Endangerment citations.  Now another person in his life will die from this terrible disease.

My A I think truly believes he is a social drinker.  I have to smile sometimes thinking of how “social” he is.

Well I should get back to work or nap.

Hugs Mary

some ppl nvr "get it" I am sad to say ~

I am beginning to think my step-dad isn't going "to get" anything for a while (or if ever) as he is 'all happy' & seemingly so more each day! It is really irritating. I don't think I'll ever believe another word he ever says.

Hello marmare,

All I can say is denial of alcoholism is so strong. Back to step one. WE are powerless over the alcoholic and alcoholism. All we can do is hope and pray that their HP higher powers can get through to them or that they will turn to their HPs for help. Have you heard of HALT yet? It stands for hungry, angry, lonely and tired. When these things are lacking in our life it is time to put them back in balance or back in sync with us. I have been so tired lately and have needed extra sleep. When we are not able to follow our program or relapse it helps to remember "HALT" to put us back on track. your friend in recovery, cdb :)

LOL Sorry I have to laugh because I was just talking to the counselor at my work about the anger ice berg and how beneath the surface there are other emotions most of the time under the surface of the iceberg...and he said have you heard of HALT, I said yes.  Then saw your posting.  Thanks for all your support.

Hugs Mary

My days here are filled with hope as I watch the majority of clients get clean and sober and their lives change so much!
