Appropriate jokes or comments in chat room

I have felt the need to start a post on this subject and see what others thoughts are on it.  There have been a few times I have been in the chat room and a joke or comment has came across which in my own opinion would be of questionable use in a recovery chatroom.  Please be mindful of people in the room who may be sensitive to this due to issues relating to the addict.  I am just posting this to see what others have to say on the subject.  I am not a prudish person, it is just that since being in a certain program I am sensitive to some issues.  Thank you for your consideration.

Without knowing what the jokes or comments are regarding its hard to give an opinion. If something is a little off and getting carried away i either ignore it , leave the room, or speak up and say so. you have a right to do that, then let it go.   Louise

A lot of us are sensitive to many different things.  I think it all comes along with living with this disease.  There are some issues that some people are comfortable with, they've learned how to handle them, and then there are other issues they may still be uncomfortable with.  While we all have the common problem of living with the disease, we can have so many differing issues regarding it.  Due to that, I think it would be almost impossible to say what can or cannot be talked about, joked about, commented on in open chat.  True, it is a recovery room...but people also recover in different ways.  Humor, being able to laugh about things which once were breaking your heart, is one way some people recover.  I think most people here try to be sensitive to others.  I've seen people stop and change the subject when someone speaks up saying they were really uncomfortable.  I have also seen people just leave the room or go into private chat with someone else when they were starting to feel uncomfortable or didn't like what was being said.  Those are choices we have.  We can take what we like and leave the rest.  We can speak up when we feel the need to do so.  The one thing we can't do is control what anyone else is going to do or say.  There have been times in here when I've had to remind myself, not everyone is where I am, not everyone has the same issues happening as me, what hurts me could just be a bother or nuisance to them, what I would give anything to have they might give anything not to have.  I've had to learn to not take it personally.  I've had to learn to respect our differences and know that it is okay that we all are different.  It has helped me a lot to do that.  I know I'm doing better though when I can at least smile (if not laugh) when joking is going on about a subject that once was breaking my heart.

Luv, Kis

I may have caused the comment. If I did I apologise. There's a time and place for things and I should stay on topic. You are right. lol to all.
