Prayer request for my dad....

Hello friends,

I do not want to post this because I really think that dad will be fine. But then, I cannot get myself to think the other way. He is such a positive  person and everyone is surprised he is still alive and kicking. Well, I found out yesterday that he is in congestive heart failure. He is about 3 days drive away from me. He and my mom have no kids near them. The one brother of mine disowned all of us and we do not know why. He didn't even call when left a message that my mom has alzheimers. grrrr It has broken my parent's hearts. My other brother lives 4 or 5 days drive away from my parents. I am sure they have not told him either.

I guess my dad can hardly breathe. My mom says he walks and has to stop because he can't breath. He has this talking scale at home that is connected to the telephone and it calls him twice a day. Wow!  What technology we have now a days. He has to weigh himself when it rings and then a nurse will talk to him too. If he gains any weight he has to go right to the hospital. He does plan to come to ND in May like he and mom do every year. They live in a cabin in Canada. He is surely a man that lives one day at a time even though he has no AA or Alanon Program knowledge. Both my parents have been upset over my daughter's alcoholism too. My two kids are their only grandkids. Well, anyway, I know that prayers help and so I thought it was time to ask for some. I do pray for all the people here and I sure thank all of you for being such a great support to my recovery.  Your Friend, cdb

Prayers sent your way.  My dad just turned 78 yesterday, and has the beginning of that condition,  but the docs have done a lot for it so far.

Thanks for the replies,

Wallsal, it is amazing all they can do now a days. My dad has had this condition on and off over the years too. Only, his cardiologist told him he cannot help him anymore. This really has hit him hard. I told my dad that he could get other opinions. He thinks the world of this doc. The thing that will help is when he gets here to ND, he has another cardiologist he thinks alot of too that hopefully can do something to at least give him hope, relief or better outcomes. Thanks for sharing about your dad too. Does your dad have a defibrulator, pacemaker, or artificial valve? My dad has those too. My dad is 76 so they are pretty close in age. One day at a time. your friend, cdb

((((((cdb)))))))) My prayers are with you always.  It is times of trial and tribulation that God is closest to us.  With this in mind, when so many circumstances are thrown at you just focus on Him to get you through, focus on Him holding you in His arms offering comfort and peace to renew your strength.

My prayers are with you and your Dad. The doctor has told my Mom the same thing. There really nothing else they can do for her. She is so huntched over from the osteoporosis and that really crowds her lungs.

It sounds like your Dad has a positive attitude and I'll tell you that makes a huge difference in their condition. I see it on a daily basis.

Hang in there, One day at a Time.

Whitie

my prayers go out to you and your parents as i type, also. i guess i don't know what congestive heart failure is, but my dad just had surgery on thursday to clean out his coroded (sp?) artery that was over 70% blocked, and had bypass surgery after a massive heart attack 14 years ago.  my mom also has alzheimers, and is failing quickly.  my dad is 74 and my mom is 83.  (i'm 44)  so i guess i'm writing because, one...you are always so faithful to post to everyone and offer your encouragement and prayers so i want to offer you the same, and two, because i can relate so much to what goes along with parents and their health.

i agree with the reply that said a person's attitude is so important in health issues, and it sounds like your dad really as a great one!

love, hugs and prayers, cdb!

My prayers are with your Dad and your whole family.

With so much on your plate, make sure you take the time to be kind to yourself. Even though your life is stressful, you still are important.

Thank you all for your prayers and support. I guess there is not update on dad's improved health. He just has to manage with what has been given to him and live his life the best he can for now. Since he was a young boy when his family was very poor, he use to caddy on the golf course. He had goals back then as a young teen. He did achieve his goals and even teaches golf! He has lived his retirement on a golf course and golfed his life away :). Now, he cannot golf. He always said the day he could not golf was the day he would be dead. Well, he may have to rethink that now and realize that he is not in control of this. He may be able to still give golf lessons this summer. He gives them free to kids remembering how important it was for him as a child to have the game of golf. Some of the kids he taught have golfed semi-pro or worked on golf courses. He has touched a lot of lives. Even with parkinsons he was able to still golf. The parkinsons did not affect his golf swing for some reason. I just hope God touches his heart and lets him know that he has a purpose in life even though he cannot golf anymore. Well, thanks again for your prayers.  cdb :)
