I learned a great lesson yesterday. I learned how much I value honesty. I had a situation that turned very ugly despite my attempts to avoid it. It all stemed from the fact that people had not been honest with me or with other people. I have become a very open and honest person through the program and didn't realize how much it had changed me until this incident. I realized how much the program has done for me in my ability to cope with the dishonesty of others, as long as I am honest with myself I will be ok. I don't know if any of this made sense to anyone but me but it needed to come out. Thanks for listening.
It makes sense to me. I know myself the hardest part of dealing with this disease is the deceite and dishonesty. All trust is lost. It becomes to easy to lie.
I agree with you, honesty does become important. I too have found that as long as I am honest with myself and trust in myself, things can begin to fall into place.
I have also found that working this program spills into all parts of my life, not just dealing with the alcoholic, it becomes about a healthier way to deal with life.
You bet your post made sense to me! Honesty is not only what we tried to teach our children but how we try to live our lives everday. I am probably too honest here if that makes any sense. WEll, what I mean is there is a risk in being honest. But, I am willing to take the risk. With honesty, we also get and give respect to others too. Thanks for your post. Honesty is a real important one for me. I have found truth is the only way, it has always paid off for me and has got me out of quite a few icky situations. I think it is also very important for people to be honest with themselves, this for me is the hardest part.
I was brought up in a very honest family and I am grateful to god for that as it is a very good quality I hope to pass on to my kids.
