Thanks for reading. I'm new to this & was interested in the forum magazine. Any thoughts on this. I'm not much of a long reader, more of a short term reader. Also I like more facts, and suggestions, not so much as comparing stories for reading. Any advice?
Hi babs, A book that is really good is, "Getting Them Sober." by andrew rice drew. It is easy to read. I like it becuz it is just down to earth.
I read my Courage to Change and one day at a time books every day. You can get them online or in bookstores. I look in used book stores all the time. I have mailed them to people all over the world. I offer to people to contact me privately and i will send you one.
my email is here. on this site.
do you go to face to face meetings? that is a wonderful place to start. There are also wonderful meetings online here in the chat room.
the chat room is fun and serious and crazy. It is real and safe. If you go in and people are goofing around, just let them know you need help and they will stop and help you. Laughter and fun is part of healing and going forward.
I was about as low as I could get when I was guided to this place. My A husband just abused me and left me alone with all the bills and everything.I had no idea what to do.
But the people in the chat room stayed with me thru many nights of laughter and craziness.
Keep coming here and reading too. People are so full of great stuff here.
the Twelve steps are important, they are a wonderful guide. when you go to a face to face meeting there will be books there you can buy.
How Alanon Works....has short chapters on lots of the "tools" we talk about in Alanon. Paths to Recovery goes over each step and traditon in short chapters also, explaining them more fully. Lots to choose from!
Happy Reading!
Luv, Kis

Many of us here can relate to you as we have been where you are.
As Debilyn said 'Getting them Sober' is a wonderful book..it is one of the few that saved my life along with the alanon pamphlets and lit.
I am not sure how long you have been in alanon, and wethere you have been to a face to face alanon meeting. At the meetings you can get free pamphlets that are so full of information and help
And also at meetings or the room here you are safe and will find much love and support.
Courage to change (al-anon daily reader): very short pages!
Paths to recovery (al-anon): lots of good common sense about using the 12 steps in life and questions at the end of each section to track progress.
Earnie Larsen (non-conference): Stage II recovery. very short and to the point.
John Bradshaw (non-conference): any. Good background info.
Sun Tzu's Art of War (non-conference): Very, very short book! much common sense in this one. it may be the oldest military treatise on the planet. Much of al-anon's approach derives from this little book.
Hi, yes I am trying the chat, online meets, f2f meets, and even different places of meetings, I just wanted to add some reading material. I'm very new to this, 6 days, but I'm willing & listening. Thanks for reply
