Dry drunks

Hello everyone,

I have been searching for books on "dry drunks" with no luck. If anyone out there has some good leads on anything, it would be gladly accepted.  I've been in alanon for about 6months now, and cannot imagine my life without it anymore :)  THANK GOD FOR ALANON!

It seems to me find any book about dysfunctional people in general whether they be using drugs like alcohol, etc and you will find what a dry drunk is. It seems to me that a dry drunk is a mental, emotional, social, spiritual dysfunctional person without the drugs like alcohol, etc. However, here is a link for Amazon.com and books on dry drunks. After their site opens, click on 'books' and enter dry drunks into the search box. Click here

Hugs & Luv,

RE: Dry drunks

For me a dry drunk, was experiencing the life I knew in the past, without recovery. All the same behaviors and issues were there. It was like the A in my life had never known sobriety, healthiness or placed any value on the life we have shared over the past years.  One counsellor said the A was planning a drunk and needed me to leave, so I could be blamed (haha) for them going out.   My A was on a dry drunk for almost a year, in the 24th year of recovery.  Like a scene from the past we relived almost every moment without alcohol.

Worst part was many of my old coping strategies came back into play and I got caught up in the whorlwind.

Needless to say that is how I found Alanon.

So good can come out of it.  We are back on track,, both accepting responsibility for our behaviors, working our programs and the steps.

I did not know what a dry drunk was and i was sure a slip was just around the corner. Very scary stuff.

Not a fun experience, to go through, but through alanon and my alanon friends, the grace of God, we are back on track.

Thanks for bringing up dry drunks, reminded me how grateful I am for this program, my higher power, and recovery.

Hazelden sells a very helpful pamphlet on "dry drunks".   Can't say enough about it.  www.hazelden.org   Order online or request a catalog.
