I would like to post a reminder about copyrighting, because this site is home to so many I really find this issue so important to revisit. Below is what I had posted November 2006 * * * * * * * When I read: All rights reserved. No part of this publication may be reproduced, stored in or introduced into a retrieval system, or transmitted, in any form, or by any means (electronic, mechanical, photocopying, recording, or otherwise), without the prior permission of the publisher. It is my understanding that this not only applies to CAL (Conference Approved Literature) but anything that states it is copyrighted (protected by laws) and we (Miracles In Progress) could be held liable for duplicating it here on this site. It is out of respect for the publisher, the future of this site, that all who find experience, strength and hope here and the ones who may find their way here in the future will be able to do so. This is why I find it important to obey such laws and guidelines. If I wish to share say a quote or a few sentences (which is all that is allowed) I will state the source from which I found it. Anything more would be considered copyright infringement. Wishes in recovery, tea2 * * * * * * * Also, I would like to add: In the index of the Al-Anon Alateen Sevice Manual 2004-2006 Posting online ..............page89 On page 89 it reads: Service Tools/Material and Electronic Publishing A listing of Al-Anon/Alateen service tools/materials that may be posted on Web sites is found on the WSO Web site: www.al-anon.alateen.org. A credit line "Reprinted by permission of Al-Anon Family Headquarters, Inc" Is required. No other Al-Anon/Alateen copyrighted literature may be reprinted electronically without express written permission from the WSO. I am repeating this post because there have been a few instances of copyrighting lately. At the January Business Meeting this was brought up as a reminder, the minutes reflect this. Also, there is a more detailed paragraph on copyrighting that can be found in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on the top of the message board here (please see #2 in the FAQs). I certainly can understand anyone wishing to share our wonderful Al-Anon literature (and perhaps other sources they consider beneficial) and truly having the best intentions for doing so. However because of reasons I shared, any copyrighting posted on this message board will need to be removed. What I usually do is first send the member a Private Message (pm) asking the member to edit the post themselves with an explanation (close to what I have shared here) so no one feels this is personal, then if it is not removed I will remove the material from the board. As a precaution (for a short period) I save the material for reference if there happens to be a question from the original poster afterwards.
