what is alanon to me

Last night our meeting topic was "what is alanon to me?" and it was suggested the I post my share.  So:

Much of Alanon to me is about LEARNING

After all, the difference between AA and Alanon is that AA is for people with a drinking problem and Alanon is for people with a thinking problem.

So, I am working towards a doctorate in serenity

Along with masters degrees in the 3 cs, detachment, THINK, FEAR, HP, spirituality, powerlessness, living and letting live, letting go, progress not perfection, taking care of me.

You all know the list, and the list includes humor for certain

I am also in a self study class - my personal inventory

My education has a lot of open classes and a lot of scheduled lectures with many guest speakers, at different campuses

There are a lot of great learning tools readily available and I use them often

occasionally I study in groups with other students
Including new students in Alanon 101 - the 3 cs, detachment, the 12 steps, etc.

Sometimes I just audit classes

Sometimes I openly participate

I have a great counselor to help me choose my studies and direction, and to help me gauge my progress

I am learning how to heal, how to help, be a better father, partner, friend, person on this rock, and so much more

Heck, I may even become a better golfer now that I have serenity instead of chaos

Its a program that I will never graduate from

But I will attain honors

And am grateful for what I have and the many new people who have a very positive affect on my entire life

Thank you all for your continuing tutelage

my shares and my actions are my thesis

what matters is the results that come from my working my program very hard

What I am learning most about is me

Everything is a growth opportunity

wherever you go, there you are

done

Hey Norwood,

I love your share. It is certainly worthy of the University of Life. As a fellow graduate, though I am still learning. I like your analysis.

I tend to write a thesis almost every other day and I also find I hypothesize often, which leads me to rewrite my thesis.

It is in the meticulous research, though, that I find my results and this class is one I NEVER fail to turn up to on a regular basis.

It will be a never-ending programme, for the tree of knowledge is vast. Keep coming back and sharing for there are many branches here and we all need to be supported by firm roots and excellent sources of nourishment.

Thank you
HeartBroken - striving for healthy pruning and eternal knowledge that will improve my growth.

I liked that share, but have to take issue with one item.... I have been a faithful member of Al-Anon for ten years now, but my golf game has certainly NOT improved!!!!

(((Norwood))))

I really enjoyed the share. Al-anon to me has been the life preserver offered to me when I was drowning in the sea of a wasteland I called my life. Without it I surely could not have gone much further.

I am thankful for my HP, the 3 C's, detachment, ESH from all, HALT, and most of all serenity.

I expect never to graduate because I know there will be something more to learn every day for the rest of my life ONE DAY AT A TIME.

Love and Blessings,

Claudia aka claud
