This could have been me (or you)

The other night a very kind woman who had been living with a nasty alcoholic for 20 years told him to come home now. He said he was on his way. She knew he wasn't and decided to do what she had done many times in the past, go to where he was and bitch and drag him home. She got in her car and was headed down the road. This was the one night he decided she was right and he got in his truck and started for home. They hit each other head on. She was instantly killed. He was in serious condition. It was him who swerved. He was a miserable ass to everyone and she was just a sweet, kind, caretaker. 20 years they had been living together.

How many nights I drove around for hours, sometimes till the sun came up, no clue as to where my ex would be but looking anyway. Thru crack alley I drove slowly, 9 months pregnant. It could have been me. How many times did you do the drive bys? The woman who died was my friend's neighbor. It's not worth it. It's not worth all of our faboulous detective work. It's worth just walking away and knowing that there is nothing we can do to change them and trying literally killed this woman. All my love to her family and that this tradgedy wakes him up to lead a better, sober life.

Ugh.. what a horrible story. You're absolutely right, it could have been me at one time. I'm so happy I'm all done with that chapter of my life. Sheesh!

Thanks serendipity. As hard as it is to hear. Yes, wasted effort. Take care of ourselves with the help of our HP's.

In support,
Nancy

Aloha El!

That was sad and true.  If you stick around long enough eventually you will hear and sometimes see some of the absolute sickest consequences come to pass in this disease especially for the enabler.  We use to say in meetings that the alcoholic had but three choices, sobriety, insanity or death.  I came to learn that the death mentioned doesn't have to mean the alcoholics.  Often times some one else will die instead of the diseased person.  I have seen it too many times.  It is always sad.....always.cry

((((hugs))))

((((((((Serendipity))))))),

A tragic lesson to learn. My sympathies and prayers to their family and to yours. Thanks for reminding us. It's time to go back to Step 1. Love and blessings to you and your family.

Live strong,

Thanks seren.  Glad you posted this pitifully sad story.  Hopefully it will influence someone who does these "drive-bys."  Terrible.  So sad.

Love to you,

Diva
