Must share this . . .

I hit rock bottom (and then some) in my checking account.   It's all gone, the farm money, whatever it was, it's gone now, sort of the end of an era, I guess.

Thankfully I just got my retirement fund check from my previous job, only 1500 bucks, but it looks like a lot to me right now.

My plan was to deposit some, cash some, and go around to the grocery store, feed store, etc, in case I bounced some checks.  It's been about seven years since I bounced a dam check, or balanced my checkbook to the T, no excuse I know :)

I set it on the coffee table as I went through the mail.  The puppies pulled off a few things, I rescued them, swept up the "pieces" chewed up and chucked it into the woodstove.  I ran around getting everyone in the house or out of the house in prep to go to the bank, forgot the check and went back in to get it . . .

Nowhere.  NOWHERE!!  I went through all the mail twice, reopened envelopes, pulled papers apart, kept thinking about all those chewed papers I chucked in the woodstove.  Sometimes puppies carry stuff outside, I looked all over the yard.  I looked under the couch, pulled out the lounge chair, and then just collapsed in tears.

I crawled on the floor (walking just wasn't possible at the time) and picked up the propane torch I use to start the stove with.

I saw a paper beneath the couch, between an end table and the couch.  It was the check.

Not a toothmark on it.  Not spindled or mutilated in any way.

Thank you HP . . . thank you sooo much . . .

Now to wait for my snotty nose to quit running and my eyes to dry up :D

Kim :)

I am so so sorry to hear you are broke. I hope some luck comes along soon for you. I am going to be broke this winter but I know it wont' be for ever.
I also know that I am on the way up again. I may not have it as soon as I would like but it will happen because every day I take baby steps towards it.

I loved your story. You made me think about times when I was so broke and bouncing checks like a fool. I was not to bright. I would rob Peter to pay Paul and didn't realize they were brothers. Ha, I was always getting in trouble by bouncing checks. What a time that was in my life. Now things are different but I will never forget that.

I am so glad you found that check. Good puppies. Good HP. :)

(((((kim))))),

HP's work in mysterious. You will be just fine. Welcome the money and it will come to you. Do you have enough wood? I was so mad at work today. I said I have just got to go do something positive. So I went into the mountains and loaded my truck with bits and pieces of old wood. I had someone look at my chainsaw this weekend (got to be careful with my shoulder). Bring it on! Girl power.

In support,
Nancy

Dear Kim:

When I was reading your story I was reminded that my dog ate one of our checks when she was a puppy. Fortunately we were able to get the payer to reissue it.

Sorry to hear about your financial situation I have been in your shoes. I always look to HP for guidance he has never failed me yet.

Hey girl, I'm right there with you! Went online yesterday and found that I had bounced a check for $4 with a $35 charge! They paid it of course but it knocked me into the reality that I really HAVE to get a second job. I get paid once a month at the end of the month and that's it. I'm cheaper than cheap but my bills are more than what's coming in. I got the bank to waive the fee this time but I was so angry, mostly with myself (a little with the bank because I had my direct deposit come in the same day and felt it should have covered it). Anyway, I took everything when I left and kept his tax return to boot and I'm just about flat broke now. I think I'm with Serendipity and gonna go start looking under the furniture for a magical check. I keep having this delusion that I'm going to go check the mail and there's going to be a check in there for a couple grand that I wasn't expecting. I think that's even beyond HP will provide however and HP is more likely to provide me a job LOL.

I can't guarantee there was any cosmic connection between the propane torch and finding the check :D .

So far one bounce that I paid cash for, and the other places I *might* have bounced just have my phone number just in case. Yeah I feel silly still, but its so much better than feeling guilty or ashamed.

Nancy, you can do chainsaws??? I am not worthy!

Just gotta keep buckling down guys. I've heard money is like energy. I need to keep it moving where it needs to go.

CG: can you believe, $35 for a $4 bounce that they PAID??? Makes me wanna put all my money in my mattress.

Kim

sell something? see, when I do have money I always try to get one thing that I know will not depreciate much in value. Is there some work you can take in to do at night? babysit/childcare? I know you have probably gone through all this. Visualize checks coming in the main. what's your address? put it out there baby, who knows you might get a wheelbarrow full...ASK.
