Ive just spent the last few days reading up a lot on al anon and stumbled across various websites related to al anon.
Ive got my very first meeting today, and to say im a little bit nervous and anxious of the unknown is an understatement.
But by some great coincidence when i was on one of the al anon chat rooms it came about that i was having a chat with a young lady from my own area in scotland and whose a member of the alnon meeting that i am attending tonite. After having a long chat with her online (and going thro many hankies), I am still nervous and anxious but feel a tad more positive about what i HAVE to do tonite and that i am doing it for myself and not just my ABF.
Hope to chat to some of you all again very soon and this website is an amazingly friendly place that i wish i had found years ago instead of banging my head against a brickwall with regards to when ABF was hitting the drink!!
Elaine: I am originally from the UK but have been in California for 20 something years. I am a very very grateful member of al anon. Welcome to this lovely group. I have been to some ftf meetings but nothing really hit me as much as this group does. I've been here two years and I have to say my life has change immesurably.

When I went to my first face to face meeting I just planned to listen. Smiled at people and was very interested. No one is going to put you on the spot or anything. They all know how each of us are vulinerable and uneasy.
I know you will do fine. An alanon friend here told me, all ya have to do is get out the door.
hello again Lani , Al-Anon is world wide as u discovered last nite ,the odds of finding someone from your own city are amazing , I have experienced that a couple of times myself . You get here when your ready lani , if you had found us yrs ago there is a pretty good chance u would have left , today u are teachable and that is a miracle . goodluck at meeting Louise
