I need a sponsor!

I was wondering if anyone out there would be interested in being an online sponsor.  I've been in alanon for a while but am now very interested in working hard for my recovery and need some assistance.  If anyone is interested, I would so much appreciate it.

Hi Jocar,

Really, your best bet is to get a sponsor from your Alanon meetings. Any old sponsor won't do. It's better to scope a sponsor out and feel a connection with them. While attending meetings you will be listening and inevitably find someone that you think "I wish I had what they have", meaning serenity and a great outlook.

There are people that do online sponsoring but in IMO it is so much better to have someone you can talk to face to face.

hi jocar......,

did you notice david62 post from five days ago about sponsorship.
it is well worth the read.
years ago when i needed to talk and did not have a sponsor,
i went for counselling.
i had someone to talk once a week for one hour without any  interruptions.
having a sponsor and counselling are both good ways to make progress in the program.

what works for one may not always work for another.
meetings, miracles in progress online forum, counselling, sponsorship, ect.
there are so many things one can do to aid recovery.
when i pray for the wisdom,
i get the answer .

GOD GRANT ME THE SERENITY TO ACCEPT THE THINGS I CANNOT CHANGE
THE COURAGE TO CHANGE THE THINGS I CAN,
AND
"THE WISDOM TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE".

love in recovery,
jewely

Aloha Judy!!  Here is a retype from a Al-Anon Pamphlet that I picked up at a District event this afternoon.  It is on Sponsorship.  Check out David's offering several days ago also.

Al-Anon Sponsorship, What it is (and is not) all about.

"Sponsoring somebody is more than just being good friends with him/her.  It's an opportunity to help that person make sense of their life;   It's a relationship built on trust."  Alateen - A Day At A Time

"A good sponsor keeps in touch, gently conveys the idea that it's always darkest before the dawn and gives a lift to the bruised ego."  One Day At A Time in Al-Anon (ODAT)

"Sponsorship is a friendship made up of two members learning from one another, two people learning a new way to live - one day at a time."  Sponship - What It's All About (CAL pamphlet)

"Being a sponsor is as much a commitment to myself as it is to someone else."
Courage To Change

"My Higher Power showed me I didn't have to talk much to be a sponsor.  What I really need to do is listen."  Hope For Today

"We are not looking for someone to tell us how to handle our problems, but rather for a loving witness who can provide perspective on our spiritual journey; one who can appreciate what we are doing and how we are growing" Paths to Recovery

"In meetings I found a sponsor who walked a few steps ahead of me on the recovery path, lighting my way."  From Survival to Recovery.

"Sponsorship was like the key to the locked cage alcoholism put me in."  Courage to be Me.

"Our sponsor is someone who had made a commitment to walk beside us on our recovery journey, someone who can help us as we learn to apply the principles of the program to our lives."  Opening Our Hearts, Transforming Our Losses.

Judy, this is a perspective that may help guide you and which comes from our literature and members who have share there.  Hope it is supportive.

((((Hugs))))
