Craziness At Work

My boss instructed me to relay a message to a colleague today. I just listened and didn't respond. He is asking a colleague to lie about being in the area of a convention I am doing, so he doesn't have to pay the full amount requested for a spot. I can understand wanting to save money; however, this is not right. He is trying to put me in the middle and I want no part of it. I walked away and did not relay the message. I contacted the vendors for demos for this convention months ago and again a few weeks ago. I have received nothing. My boss starts getting on me about how we have nothing for the show. What am I supposed to do? Hunt these people down and hold a gun to their head for a demo unit? I did my part. I feel like my boss had a hand in all this because he gets off on putting me down. I feel like I am going to lose my mind.

I think you did the right thing. I do not lie for anyone. Detach, detach, detach, right? Hang in there. You'll find something else when its time. In the mean time we're here.

Sounds like a set up to me. You will be the one named if this comes out in some way, and people like your boss don't have the greatest karma :) .

It's just wrong. Sounds like you work in a dangerous place, I'm really sorry to hear this kind of stuff.

I received an e-mail from someone I ran into over the weekend. We worked on a project together. She works at a different company. She knows my boss well. I sensed something odd in her behavior and tone of voice when I mentioned where I work and my boss's name. I had e-mailed her yesterday for some photos from the project we worked on and I asked her if I should be concerned about where I work. Her reply was, "No, nothing to be concerned about, but I do hope it is going well for you there". Is it me, or does this comment sound odd?

Hmm, I would say odd comment. I wouldn't pass on the instruction to lie either. I could see him saying I never said that and putting the whole thing on you if the u no what hit the fan. I would tell him that I don't feel comfortable with that and to please not put me in that situation again. If he wants to tell a lie don't make you the middle man. The whole thing sounds strange. I'd definitely be on the lookout for a new job! I hate having a bad boss, when that happens I begin shopping and usually have a new job within a month. I know you could find something else and not have to be put in situations like that. Good luck.
