A metaphore that just popped into my mind ...

While typing an email I said the following: The road ahead is rough, but for once in my life I have to go through something instead of around it. And around it.and around it..hahahaha

Which lead me to my metaphore (for those not familiar w/ traffic circles, NJ had tons, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traffic_circle )

OK as I typed that I had a funny but probably appropriate vision. Picture a circle you drive in (remember those in NJ ?) Nowyou are going to avoid what is in the middle and go around. Yet instead of focusing on the destionation, you keep looking at it as an obstacle, you keep the focus on the middle and your hands are on the wheel in the turn. Your so fixated your never move the wheel and you keep gound around and around that circle never to your destination (destin-y ?)

In Jersey when giving directions nobody ever said..ok, go around the circle..they always said go through the circle. I wasn't a straight line to the other side, but if you went through the circle you got to the other side.

Hope you chucked at my warped thinking. If you didn't like it. Work your program. LOL

I'm punchy today. LOL

Bob

Ha!!  You just ain't right Bump...
and that's precisely what I love about ya.   I realize that the reason I enjoy your warped sense of humor is because I understand it.  What's that tell ya?

I understood this right from the start
I think like you while others stand and stare at me when I talk or they have one of those huh? expressions. lol  I seem to explain things in parables or proverbs or sayings or metaphore..... shoot I even make up my own words too... but I can often get lost on jokes.  Punchy is good, my style is giddy.
Find some friends and youse NJ guys go have some fun.

Keep finding some en(joy)ment in your Friday!!  And remember to breathe too.
Will keep you in my thoughts & prayers.

hugs from ddub

Those traffic circles always made me dizzy! hahahahaa
One time in D.C. we sat on some steps and watched the traffic swirl in a major traffic circle ...just for entertainment. Funny thing, all the cars made it to their destination!

I think I feel like this with separation/leaving. I do not know where I am going but I know its forwards. I have no idea how to get there but I'm very very wiling (for once) to do whatever it takes to move on. I am tired of going backwards and round in cricles. No more taking him back, no more focusing on him all the time.

Love this one, Bump. Alanon folks tend to enjoy my metaphors, too. Others just look at me funny.

Sounds like you are breathing again:)

I posted that reply then had a picture come up in my mind of a person going around in circles holding their breath getting all blue in the face. Now that's rediculous, but sure looks like me behind the wheel. ;)

RE: A metaphore that just popped into my mind ...

Bob,
Ok how about this?

These circles bother me, we have a few here, and they are kinda new to us Washatonians. Within the past few years they have been popping up. I don't like them because several of my fellow drivers don't know how to properly enter the circle. They stop when is says yeild, and sometimes I will be sitting there ready to go, waiting on the car in front of me, there isn't anyone coming towards them, and they are just not ready to move yet.

Ok so I may be ready to step forward on my way to my destionation (destin-y) but perhaps those around me aren't. I may be ready to go through my circle, but someone esle may not be. I can not force somone (as much as I may like to) to move. I have to patiently wait until they are ready.

Getting angry doesn't help them or me.

Just had that thought when I read this.

Thanks for the thoughts.

Yours in recovery,
Mandy
