Practicing these principles in all my affairs

Practicing these principles in all my affairs....
...with my mom
Convo 8/6:
Mom:So, I found you a TV
Me: Really? That's great!
Mom:So if I give it you before the end of the term it won't distract you from your studies?
Me:Uhh No mom
Mom: Oh....okay. So, if I send it down with John [step dad], that'll be okay?
Me: Definately!
Mom: Okay, so then can I ask you a favor?
Me:Mmmmm depends on what it is?
Mom: If I buy you a TV, will you make sure your toilet is cleaned?
Me: Mom, that's a little juvenile
Mom: I just don't want John to see you like that!
Me: Mom, if my whole relationship with John rests on my toilet being cleaned, that's not much of a relationship.
Mom: [sputters in self defense about how John has always loved me, how he's always been there, realizing it's a futile argument] You'll argue your way to get out of anything, won't you? mmmmhmmm, 'bye
principle: This above all, to thine own self be true

Convo: 8/7, with Dad
Dad walks in after work, seeing that I'm doing hwk and watching re-runs of AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL:
Dad (said in a tone that just begs for a fight): Gee Sarah, you're somthin', you know that? I could never do my homework in front of the tube, nuh huh...I always had to go to the library, or to somewhere quiet, or somethin' like that...but you, you can....
Me:(consciously decides to "turn the deaf ear" and concentrate on school work")
principle: How important is it? & Let it begin with me

They actually did a study about kids doing homework with headphones or a tv on and found that some actually do much better then total silence. I wish I knew of the article so you could print out for you.
As far as your toilet. blahhhhhhhhhhhhhh Let her keep the tv. lol I'm not one for any dictatorship. But that's just me. Good luck on that homework :)

Yeah, I'd be tempted to think the price for the TV was too high, too.
