stealing often go with drinking and using?

it just never seems to end with my 19 year old.  Since getting fired from her job for stealing and being late, she has twice gotten caught shop lifting. she has admitted that it is a compulsion, perhaps, she still doesn't see drinking and drugging to be related.  anyhow my question now is should I continue to encourage her to get a job, or should I offer to "help her out" with gas money if she goes to therapy? I'm afraid if she gets another job the same thing may happen.  she may be asking for some kind of help? Any ESH with this?

This is what I did in this type of situation. Never ever ever handed money over. Take me to the gas station and I will pump and pay for the gas. Encouraged always for the A in my life to work. It was not gas in this case, it was food. I will not see her starve but I will take food to her home as opposed to handing over money.

In my experience stealing goes along with the addiction.

I agree with the previous statement that stealing goes hand in hand with using. My AH is an addict as well and manipulated money from his mother to fuel his habit.

Currently, he has found a new job and makes his own money which, oddly enough, he gives to me to hold. If he needs anything, i.e. car maintence, supplies, etc. he asks me and I write a check to the store in question and he brings me the receipt. He said he doesn't trust himself with money which is fine.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

yes my experience as well stealing and addiction - hand in hand. I would encourage the new job and not help her out. We are all responsible for our own actions.
