Question about forks

Hello (((All)))

I kinda wish this was a more important post about the forks in the roads of life or something but it is not .... I have a question about plain old tableware. And I freely admit I have been obsessed with this question for at least a couple of years now. I even tried giving it up to my HP, helped of course until now while getting started to pack the few things left here I am taking.

i have lived with my A for 15 years, in this time there have been at least 5 sets of flatware, maybe 6. I have a drawer full of kinves, 2 sizes of spoons from each set, various butter knives, perserves speaders etc ... There are 2 forks, and one is not even from any of these sets. I have come to 2 conclusions my house eats them or they are used in some sort of drinking/drugging activity. It's a mystery that just won't leave me alone LOL or that I can't leave alone. Does anyone know where 60 or more forks go?

Jennifer

LOL! I don't know about the forks. I do know that Knives, butter knives, seem to be what disappears from my house. I too, have had at least 4 sets, complete, of silverware. I was down to 2 knives and one I didn't recognize from anywhere. Not my in laws set, or my mom's or my dad's.....I have no idea. But, the A and I are now divorced. I have inherited my dad's silverware, it is complete. So begins the experiment. Now, in a few months, I will know whether the knives and the socks are the big mystery in life or it really was the A and some of his insanity......I'll let you know!

LOL - ya know what my conclusion is on the silverware? When my AH is recovering from a binge, he is so tired, so out of it that he doesn't realize that when he dumps his plate of left over food in the trash, that the fork or knife went with it. Therefore, it gets hauled out w/the trash, never to be seen again. I bet if we went digging around the landfills, we'd find all kinds of silverware there. My cups disappear too. But I know what happens to them. My AH will fix himself a drink, take it outside or with him in his truck and never bring it back. Oddly enough, I end up w/other peoples cups in this same insane manner. He will borrow a cup at a friends house and leave w/it. It ends up in my house. Therefore I have a cabinet full of mismatched cups.

As far as the socks go....well I have never been able to figure that one out. I had a friend once who always safety pinned his socks together before he threw them in the hamper. Good idea if you want to take the time to do such a thing. He was a bit of a perfectionist type too.

Good luck on your search. And I hope my experience has helped.

Sincerely,
QOD

I would actually recommend, if you're overstuffed with flatware, to consult the local homeless shelter or battered womens shelter. Many of these individuals, when they start with their own place, have nothing. Something like silverware is pricless to them, and they don't need to know your name.
I have 1 spoon, 1 fork, 2 knives. My sponsor gave them to me. 2 bowls. Took those from the house.

Yes, I have many missing spoons, containers, container lids, missing lids to containers I have or containers to lids I still have. I blame hubby, at least when the container and corresponding lids are missing along with the spoons - he's the one who almost always takes leftovers to work - I usually take easy stuff like soup and crackers. He takes them and leaves them god knows where during the day while he's landscaping - then he's acting all clueless as to where they've gone! I have no idea how I always manage to lose random lids and random containers but manage to keep their other half.

LOL you guys are too funny! Maybe my forks have gone to live with Luna's knives .... maybe there is a person missing spoons out there somewhere. I too had thought of the garbage idea, but just can't understand why it is only forks.

As for the socks I'd like to actually see the inside of my dryer casing someday, they have to be there somewhere LOL. Since losing vision, I have found these little things that hold like colored socks together so I don't end up wearing one blue, one black etc. I just got them so I am not sure if they will make it thru the wash/dry process. I should probably ask before I throw them in there hooked together. But I'll let you know.

It's amazing how much stuff I have stored up since moving in here 10 years ago. I am only taking personal and special items. The remainder has been split between a woman's shelter, and a local church group. Except for some clothing ... I found a great way to be nice to me. There is a store that takes my nicer clothing, resells it and gives me partial credit. It's been a fun way to go shopping with little money and really clean out my closets. Not to mention the people there are really good about helping me read tags and match colors.

Anyway hope you all are having a great day!
Jennifer

ARGHH!! My hubby does that, I find them in the couch, or at the foot of the bed tucked at the tight part of the covers along with his pj pants!!! He takes them off by the couch or the bed or outside on the porch - drives me nuts - I just found a huge batch of dirty socks behind a table on the porch bleh - after I'd already done all the laundry evileye. It's all the men's fault, yep, they think we know their every step & should be able to pick up after everything they do. We have kids for that!! biggrin I need to hire someone for this - a follower, for my hubby who will go around making sure he doesn't leave so much stuff behind!

I am the person who is missing the spoons. I usually blame the kids.
My son eats late at night and I found so many dishes next to and under his bed YUCK!
I know that people throw them in the garbage too.
I can't blame the AH for everything here.

You made me think I was nuts, LOL....I was going to reply about my knives and then I read your second reply...I though huh? did I already reply...then I thought WOW she's got ESP !!!

My steak knives get tossed with the pizza boxes LOL  I think I've got one or two left.  I've come to learn to shake the pizza box before I toss it LOL

Hope you are doing well!

LOL my forks ran off with Serendipity's kinves not yours Luna .... or maybe yours too, and Jeanne's spoons.

I can say though that I am not brave enough to stick my hand down in the couch not even to solve the fork mystery. And if there are socks in there they can stay there too. Bad enough what I find under it.

I understand the late night munchie thing too. My brother lived with me years ago for about 6 months. Months later I went to store some linens in the dresser he used and WOW he thought it was a dishwasher!

Now I can look on the fork mystery as something to laugh about, Thanks everyone!

That is so funny, it reminds me of a BBQ last summer at H's squadron. He came out of the building with something, but did not have a spoon for it. I said "12 years of my silverware coming to work in your lunchbox and not making it home, and you can't find a spoon? Go look again."
